Prince Albert: Prince Albert 14oz Pipe Tobacco

Product Number: 003-812-0002

Introduced by the R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. in 1907, Prince Albert was named after Edward VII, known as Prince Albert before being crowned king. The portrait of the prince was based on one acquired by the tobacco company at a tea with Mark Twain.

An ultra-classic blend of Burley and Cavendish, with just a hint of cocoa and molasses, Prince Albert is the sort of all-day blend your father or grandfather might have smoked, marked by a timeless flavor and exceptional room note.

Best of the codgers

Product: Prince Albert Prince Albert 14oz
When I was young living in the hinterland, there were very few choices in tobacco for pipes, RYO and cigars. Basically you could get Half and Half, Sir Walter Raleigh, Velvet and Prince Albert and sometimes Carter Hall. Of course there were other tobaccos available but not in those tiny little towns that made up a great deal of America in the aftermath of the second world war...even the ready rolled cigarettes were limited in choices and seemed to be mostly Camels and Lucky Strikes, simply because the little stores only carried few wares as eye couldn't afford to sit on inventory when the popular choices moved much faster. Guess you had to be there. Many more pipe smokers in those days and H&H and PA were very popular. Though I occasionally smoke a bowl of H and H, PA is my choice of codger smokes. Not complicated...some would call it single note, but cool smoking, clouds of smoke and burns to the bottom of the bowl with no relights ( unless you're new and still learning to pack...not to worry, we all had to learn how to do that). This is my choice for chores or driving...don't have to pay much attention to my pipe, just clench and puff. No need to dry or pack in a special way, just one finger pack straight from the pouch. Only thing different, the cans aren't tin any more and storing nuts, bolts, nails (or marbles when I was a kid), just isn't the same...doesn't sound right. If you've wondered what was so special about some of those old time smokes, you should try this....Read More

Not sure if its my pipe or not but I have trouble tasting the full flavor until I'm halfway thru the bowl. Fantastic with breakfast tea and coffee.

The classic American Burley blend pipe tobacco. PA is a Burley first and foremost despite rumors of Virginia and whatever other nonsense people like to guess at. It and Edgeworth were probably the first blends that introduced the Burley cases in licorice format that dominated Burley blends until today. I also hate to do it but I have to take issue with another reviewer who said that OA is the same recipe as Camel cigarettes. This is simply not true, Camel cigarettes were the first American blend cigarette and despite the Egyptian imagery they are about 65-70% Virginia, with Burley and a bit of Turkish for spice. Prince Albert has always been Burley and only Burley....Read More

Not much to say about Prince Albert that hasn't already been said. It's a real easygoing, mellow, classic American smoke. I find it does have a slight "chemical" top note that I personally don't find unpleasant. I actually kind of like it. It doesn't really present itself unless I puff away aggressively and get some clouds rolling in. Which I find I often do with PA. I just wanted to give my two-cents and submit a five star rating. If I could only smoke 5 blends the rest of my life, this would likely be one of them. Clean, cool, tasty, inexpensive inoffensive, and unpretentious. Pro tip: pair a bowl of Prince Albert with a glass of chocolate milk....Read More

The only reason that I'm giving this tobacco three stars, considering there are so many other faithful recreations that are better, is because I will always remember being a little kid in the '80s and my grandpa used this to roll his own cigarettes. The smell and aroma just brings me back to being a kid....Read More

I come from the foothills of Appalachia. We are the descendants of English, Irish, and Scottish settlers. It's always been fashionable to hate us.

Classic For A Reason

Delicious, simple Burley with a lightly sweet cocoa topping. It's a classic for a reason. The blend components are incorrect - there is no black cavendish in Prince Albert.
