About This Pipe Tobacco

Sir Walter Raleigh pipe tobacco was first introduced in 1927 and is currently produced in the United States. Sir Walter himself was introduced quite a bit earlier, the 1500s in fact, and became known for many deeds of valor and courage, as well as the man who popularized smoking in Europe. A Burley blend with hints of anise and molasses, Sir Walter Raleigh Regular has been a popular favorite of countless smokers for generations.

Piss poor blend

Acerbic and sour are the high points of this abomination of a blend. Upon opening the tin I was meet with overwhelming ammonia scent that made me pull back in disgust. Definitely will not purchase this again.

I've smoked this tobacco for almost 50 years. And yes, they've changed the cut and now you can only get it pouches or 7oz tins. I get that....it's a business decision. BUT why change the product itself? I purchased 2 X 7oz cans in December 2024. Just opened one last week. VINEGAR....IT SMELLS LIKE VINEGAR...and the taste is sharp and bites the tongue. I had read the reviews on various pipe forums of this fall from grace, but was hopefully it was just a bad batch. Personally I get a very strong fruit flavor throughout the smoke on this tobacco. Far better than I expected.

STG how taken an American Burley classic and ruined it, and I can't figure out why. As soon you remove the silver hermetic seal your nose is met with an eye watering smell mix of vinegar and chemical, and no matter how long I left it to air out, when the flame hits gone is the great Burley with Anise and Molasses, replaced with horrible Sour, Acrid smoke. So STG, unless you are trying to phase out production of SWR Original by making everyone hate it on purpose, please change it back. That's how I got stuck with these 7oz, cause I didn't read the reviews to see they changed it, but why should I, it's only been one of the best OTC tobacco for over 50 years....Read More
