acco so much? When there are plenty more that taste more appealing? I am not a fan of perique tobacco, and it is quite detectable in this blend, although I love burley and the perique really brings out the nuttiness.
Burns extremely fast, and contains lots of chunks of unbroken flakes, but it is so easy to keep lit. I can feel when it needs a tamp, or the ash dumping, or a pipe cleaner in the stem, and for this reason it is my favourite for taking outside to smoke - pretty much hassle free, strong enough on windy days and nearly lights itself!
The first time I tasted it I remember saying to myself how "savoury" it tasted, and I had never tried a blend like it. I was expecting something sweeter. However as time has passed I feel it does have an almost sickly-sweet taste at times which is indescribable. Definitely unique and very pleasant.
Nicotine hits fast and hard from around middle of the bowl, but I often get an ultimate/nirvana smoke from HB, and I attribute that to the nicotine content, very relaxing and satisfying.
In my opinion, it is best smoked in a corn cob, I have a Great Dane pretty much dedicated to it. Charred rim, tanned in color, stem a little too loose after much abuse, but for me Haunted Bookshop and my favourite corn cob pipe are two of my very best friends. Read Less

I’m a big fan of burley and this didn’t disappoint. Not a super full flavored blend but definitely enjoyable for burley fans. My first tin came at a perfect moisture content and smokes very easily. Will order much more.

观看了B站老郑的介绍后购买的，品尝之后就因为它的多变深深的喜欢上了，不用浪费时间和精力去揉搓醒草，直接就能装斗点火，这一点很喜欢。
香气很接近美国骆驼和英国555香烟在鼻腔里的感觉，口腔中的甜和喝了绿茶之后回甘很接近，伴随着咸味炒南瓜子的香味，是一款3段都有变化的好烟斗草，不知不觉已经从不同渠道购买了一些。感觉罐装的比散装的品质要更好一些，头段更能一口出甜。建议使用大口径以及空腔烟斗小口抽吸品尝。

ck, rancid mushroom, toe-jam note to me. The use of large amounts of Dark Burley in HBS makes this one a deeply earthy mix to be sipped, and the fungus like Perique stays in my nose and cloyingly stays on my clothes. 和网上的评价基本吻合，初闻起来是酸甜的味道，选了一把大气室来品吸，抽起来依然感觉劲头很大，vb的组合凸显了b草的烟草香，带一点点v草的甜和p草的辛辣感，尼古丁含量很高，一斗下来满足感很强，适合老烟枪的常备口粮。

白肋为主导的一款草，第一次抽它也许会觉得比较烈，多抽几斗也许会慢慢发现它的好。坚果味为主线，也能尝出V草的甜，以及P草的胡椒感。大口抽的话会很苦，所以一定要小口抽。草偏干，不用醒草，很好装填，胡乱瞎塞就好，燃烧也非常好。尼古丁含量中高，过鼻有些刺激。主要是这款草的味道比较清淡，怎么抽都不会腻。

This is a beautiful tobacco. Sweet and strong. Smoke slow. My cat really likes when I smoke this stuff, I almost can't smoke this in peace because my cat needs me to pet her although I can't refuse when she's being affectionate. Highly recommended.

tter as I learned to slow down with it...third and subsequent bowls are telling me to order more. I’m bad for grabbing what’s on top of the stack of tins and a favorite pipe as I head out for my almost daily mountain drive. This tin kept getting grabbed along with a favorite 50 year old Jost Canadian. What a fine combo for my taste. Moisture level in the tin was just right but needs to be maintained or it will smoke a bit dry and hot. Otherwise, a near perfect blend for American tobacco lovers. Not like anything else I’ve smoked. Runowski’s loss was a big loss. His legacy is noteworthy. Read Less

原盒陈放一年多，初闻有一些臭酱气味，点火后略有苦杏仁苦感，而后出甜挺快的，白肋的木香及泥土味比较明显，p草的辛辣高和尼古丁的沙口感也比较明显，不难抽，建议用长嘴3mm品尝

t, but your fixation will always be on that lovely, earthy tobacco taste. The complexity is there no matter what, and my interest is fully held until the end of the bowl. There is a decent nic hit here, but it is like dipping your feet into a nice hot bath on a warm day. f an old rundown newsstand - bitter, acrid, sour, and harsh. Reminds me of smoking a stale pack of cigarettes, hence my newsstand reference.
Burns well and cleanly. Plenty of N. So if that’s what you’re looking for most, this may fit your needs.
I give it some extra points because it’s great for adding to aromatics to improve burn and add body/N.
Taste is subjective, but this blend will continue to haunt smokers based on lore and group think.
Smoke SWR, H&H, or PS Cube Cut instead. Read Less

If you are an ex-cigarette person this is the blend for you in my opinion. It takes some getting used to and due to my fondness of Matches 860 I tried my damndest to like it but it’s just not for me.

and ash. I have smoked much smoother whole leaf burley than this stuff and I have to wonder where they are getting this leaf from and why choose it to blend with. There are much better choices with smoother taste for those looking for a robust non-flue cured tobacco i.g. Tabac Manil Semois, G&H/SG dark-fired shags, ropes, flakes, Five Brothers. Despite coming in a tin there is nothing premium about this product and definately is not worth the typical price for such a pathetic blend of unrefined and crude burley Read Less

I thought maybe I didn't like burleys: not true. I thought maybe I didn't like burley and perique together: not true.
In other words, I was trying to blame my lack of enjoyment of this tobacco on myself, on my tastes, but what it boils down to is that I don't like Haunted Bookshop because it is poorly done. Musty, stout, heady, spicy, dark, full--and very unbalanced.
You would think this blend would work and be delightful, but it just doesn't. Of course, as with everything on Tobacco Reviews YMMV.
It's a blend that tries to be 'rustic' and thinks 'rustic' means lacking any and all subtlety or nuance, and being completely off balance.
The same thinking that creates these modern craft beers with stupid, ridiculous levels of hoppiness also created Haunted Bookshop. Read Less

perique in the tin, the signature umami flavor is present to spice it up
I rarely reach for any C&D blend because it is almost always low quality tobacco, barely above a drug store blend and sometimes worse. I’ve purchased this particular blend about three times, wrestling with my thoughts about it. The truth is that this blend is greater than the sum of its parts. You get the distinct feeling like you are walking through and abandoned bookstore. The books covered in dust, untouched and cobwebs strewn about the place. There is a distinct cigarettiness about this tobacco that reminds you of how poor the tobacco is, but that plays into the overall sensation of walking through this abandoned building. Spitting is as much a part of this smoke as tasting it and makes you feel almost as dirty and poor as the creaking wooden floorboards beneath your feet. In the end there is something comforting about it. It almost feels like I’m communing with my dead grandparents whose home was scented with the fragrance of cigarettes. You’re not quite sure if ghosts are really in this deadened place, but you stay with it because you can feel the warm memory of what used to be. In the end I think I’ll make more than one visit back. t pipe tobacco blends..... I enjoyed it.
Update- my 2nd and 3rd bowl were a completely different experience and taste profile. I now love this tobacco. It’s nutty, it’s spicy but also semi sweet on the back end. I loved the room note, and it smokes very well! I get it, I didn’t at first, but now I understand this blend a bit more. I can also see why it’s either a love or hate type of blend. Don’t think there’s an in-between on this one. I’m going after more burley blends! Read Less

will be experimenting with the ball method, thanks to Mutton Chop Piper on YouTube.
Lights and smokes easily. Pleasant and balanced. Not a ton of flavor up front, can taste the Perique more on the first third of the bowl. On the second third, the fruit came through. The Burley seems to hold it all together here. 3rd stage, the pipe did go out but I'll take the blame for that. The re-light showcased all three ingredients in this lovely blend. Burley first, Perique second and those fruity Virginia's last but still making their presence wonderfully known.
I rather enjoyed this bowl and can't wait to smoke a few more.
I highly recommend Haunted Bookshop as an easy, pleasant blend to explore. Read Less

into strong English blends and wasn’t too familiar with Burley at all besides in “Prince Albert” after a couple years of refining my palate and really coming to enjoying Virginia and Perique Blends I again watched another Review from “Stuff and Things” and wondered if I should go back and see if my opinion had changed with time and Experience. So I bought some more... An already long story short, I Really am loving this tobacco Blend lately and am picking it over almost all of my other favorite blends. The Nutty-ness from the burly is really tasty as well as the Perique is spot on where it needs to be to complement and add a little spice...I don’t know for the life of me why I didn’t care for this at first but I’m so glad I came back. ed for years. There are cobwebs in the corners, the store has an old musty smell, with an eerie feeling of something around the corner watching you and simply waiting to jump out. The tin notes are of an old musty bookstore (in a good way). The beginning of the bowl is nice and feels as though you will enjoy your time, yet with every puff of your pipe it seems to change... the notes twist and turn in a game of cat and mouse with a phantom of ghostly origins. ll. I was bummed, but decided to try it anyway. Upon lighting the profile changes completely. You end up getting this nutty peppery smoke that is truly delightful. To me it reminded me of walking into a bowling ally back in the day before smoking was banned indoors. It is a malty, beery, nutty, and bready smoke with huge pepper note. Taste is medium to full and mostly consistent, with notes of peaty sour vegetation, dry bitter, spices, very nutty, earthy, mild sugar, slight spicy, very woody, slight molasses, mild dark fruit, mildly savory, a spiced raisin background note, and a very peppery retro. I didn’t taste what all the hype is about. It’s a good blend, but a little heavy on the burly for me. This same order contained Three Friars, and that knocked my socks off. I will probably purchase again to cellar more than this eight ounces.

It's nothing fancy, nothing to marvel at, but definitely something you can reach for again and again. It's great. Also, I reviewed this two years ago almost to the day, and it does cellar well. ing it tastes like cigarettes. To me it doesn't taste like cigs. I got some butteryness
and a bit of black pepper from the perique Im guessing. No sweetness for me. Not very complex but still good. No bite. Not harsh. Nic was medium for me. Would definitely buy again but not my favorite either. Time may change that but this is my first impression.
Update: After spending more time with this blend I can appreciate it for what it is, but I'm liking it less than I did at first. still a decent blend. I know those who like perique will probably enjoy this blend if they like burley/perique together. For me the perique gives a good earthy/dried mushroom flavor and a bit of black pepper. I don't get any fruit or sweetness from this blend at all. I have added more viginia to this at times and i think it helps the balance a bit. To me this blend is good for what it is but there are better burley blends IMO. Read Less

Love this blend, perfect for reading a good book. Goes fantastic with a glass of bourbon, nice over all burn. Top notes of grass, leather, sweet dry bread. No tongue bite, smooth pillows of smoke. Get a tin you will not regret it.

the strongest, foulest of blends. It was "rough" tasting and it had "nic kick" that I didn't enjoy at that moment. I dumped the tobacco into a large jar and put the can on display on my shelf.
Over the years, I kept seeing references to it and how people thought it was so great and was their everyday smoke. I just remembered that first impression.
Slowly, very slowly as my smoking has progressed I started to try and enjoy other burley forward and stronger blends. One day, digging through the jar cellar.. I found that jar.. and decided to give it a try again. Now the tobacco "spoke" to me.. and I was able to get flavors out of it that were "lost" on me back then.
Fast forward to today. I start most mornings with a bowl while I'm enjoying my coffee. I wait for sales to make sure I have some bulk back in the cellar and I've started using it as a blending base for other tobaccos I'm trying to use up.

Ok, a really good cigarette, but that's not what I want from pipe tobacco. I know people who swear by this blend, and they might have more refined pallettes than mine, because I don't get much complexity. A bit disappointed.

Behavior: Smokes down to nice white ash, negligible moisture, requires some relights straight out of the bag, no bite.

The key to this is packing it good and sipping it, you will find the flavors very enjoyable. I guess you will either like it or hate it. I am not sure there is anything in between. uttiness. But then by the time I'm to a quarter of a bowl it's back to the ash flavor again. Definitely a tin note of Camel cigarettes and the wife asked if I had smoked some of those. I will try it again after I have aged it a little. It could just need some time to mature...maybe? I tend to like English blends and Virginia blends more but I do have a few burlys in my celler as well. I do like a variety in flavors. But I am not a fan of ash...
So as an update I have spent a little time on my smoking technique and that was most of my issue with this tobacco. I am still working on my technique but I kept coming back to this tobacco, wasnt sure why. But I purchased a pound of it and have been giving it a go as a daily smoke. I must say that I am glad I did. I have been enjoying it. It will be a primary in my pipe, but I am still looking for that tobacco that I read people talking about. that one perfect tobacco. I dont know maybe this is it. But I keep trying different tins and pouches of things making sure I am not missing anything. I have rerated this to a 4.5 up from a 1 I admit I made a mistake, a pretty big one. Read Less

I thought maybe I didn't like burleys: not true. I thought maybe I didn't like burley and perique together: not true.
In other words, I was trying to blame my lack of enjoyment of this tobacco on myself, on my tastes, but what it boils down to is that I don't like Haunted Bookshop because it is poorly done. Musty, stout, heady, spicy, dark, full--and very unbalanced.
You would think this blend would work and be delightful, but it just doesn't. Of course, as with everything on Tobacco Reviews YMMV.
It's a blend that tries to be 'rustic' and thinks 'rustic' means lacking any and all subtlety or nuance, and being completely off balance.
The same thinking that creates these modern craft beers with stupid, ridiculous levels of hoppiness also created Haunted Bookshop. Read Less

something subtly remarkable. “Subtle” is an interesting descriptor here as I did not expect anything subtle to come out of this blend. It smells pleasant and interesting enough from the jar or tin or bag, but the first few puffs are nothing to write home about and forecast a disappointing session. But, lo and behold, a pleasing butteriness spreads across the tongue, rounding out the nuttiness of the burley, while a sprinkling of the peppery perique livens things up. Edit: Revised my opinion after giving this blend a second try. Stuck it in a corn cob to see if that would help. Upon lighting a bowl up it's terrible. I mean foul. name for the blend, after the Morley novel, attracted my attention. My bulk purchase (I’ve never sampled the tin form) was well worth it. It’s true that the bag note isn’t remarkable or even pleasant. Just a straight-up natural burley scent, with its faint nuttiness. After the char light, the smell and flavor is fair. At that stage, it can smell and taste of cigarettes. But a minute or more into the bowl, and namely when I draw deeply and let that smoke build at the back of my mouth, it’s then that I can savor the full force of burley nuttiness. A different nuttiness than in one of my top favorites, Old Joe Krantz, another Bob Runowski great. It’s when I do those deep pulls from the pipe, then hold the smoke inside my mouth for a several seconds, that I fully appreciate the blend. The nic-blast is, as we southern Louisianans say, just the “lagniappe.” The cherry on top, the welcomed something-extra. 4.0 stars. Read Less

It's dry and dusty with solid notes of earth and hints of dried dark fruits and brown sugar well in the background. ever need a relight! Also, I could sip it slowly. It required little work in my cob and my nice bent apple. So if you like stout burleys, this may be for you. I bought an ounce b/c I wanted a burley to build a cake in a new pipe, and I must say that the cake is off to a good start. But ashy taste of the burley and the nicotine punch in the face are too much for me. However, I've found that cutting a tad into sweet aromatics evens them out a bit. I'm glad I tried this, but I discovered I like my non-aromatics with more complexity and a bit smoother. Read Less

At first, it was rough, but smooth out soon enough. It went from nutty, to sweet, to chocolate, back to nutty. It reminds me a lot of three nuns, except its actually decent. it has a very light sweet virgina taste but really, to me, it had a flavor more like cigar tobacco, rather than a complex pipe tobacco. like the previous review, i would agree, its ok, its not bad, its not fantastic either, i would be a very good "go do stuff" kind of smoke, where you can just chuff away with out feeling like you have to sit down for the next 40 mins and try to taste every nuance, this is more like, eh I'm play some Shenmue on Dreamcast and just smoke this baccy for the nicotine. Point being its what i would call a background baccy, not a flavor bomb, but defiantly not a disappointment either.
