Product: Cornell & Diehl Granulated Perique Bulk
The smell reminds me of oolong tea, but multiplied to be many times more potent. A very close and deep sniff stings the nostrils. Tastes like lemon, oak, and about a dozen other things. Mixed with some straight Virginia it is perfection.

I know you are supposed to use it as a blending component, but I find it delicious on its own. You might need to relight a number of times, but it is very slow burning and it gets better and better the more you progress with your smoke.

4/7/24 UPDATE: So what has it been? A year since this tobacco has been in stock? This fine tobacco makes just about everything taste better. It is the ultimate condiment tobacco. A little (or a LOT) of this lends a mushroom-ey, peppery, forest tang to many of my favorite burleys an Virginia's. It's great, and that's why it's always seemingly out of stock....Read More

5 yr old jar note of pungent and musty vegetation. Tobacco is tiny roughcut and is mostly brown with a little dark brown. Tobacco is still wet, drying is needed. Burns slow with a few extra relights. The strength is strong and nic is medium. No flavoring detected. Taste is full and consistent, with notes of very spicy, wood, leather, acidic, dark fruit, earth, maduro cigar like, fermented vegetation, a sweet bready background note, and a very peppery retro. Room note is strong, and aftertaste is good....Read More

After mixing a little bit this with a few blends to try to spice them up, I wanted to see what it was like straight. I know some folks say this is unsmokable straight and thought to myself, why not try it for yourself? I found my old Dr. Grabo Omega, packed it, and fired it up. I was pleasantly surprised. It is actually pretty good straight. It isn’t nearly as overwhelming as what a lot of people say. It will tickle your nose on the retro hale but it doesn’t burn your nose or overwhelm the senses as some say. My pipe never got hot at all but stayed cool the entire smoke. No bite at all.
The aroma from the top of my pipe (giving it a little sniff) was pleasant to me. It has the essence of stewed raisens/dark fruit at some moments. Then at other times, it has a mushroomy flavor, similarly to but a little stronger than Solani Aged Burley Flake. Also, I am not going to say it is like, but it reminded me of sour mash before it is distilled. (Strong fermentation taste and aroma.) That aroma is pleasant, at least to me.
I am not sure if you want to pack up a large pot or chimney pipe with this stuff but in a smaller pipe, it is very enjoyable, smokable, a nice change, and not single-dimensional.
My advice is don’t listen to the hype and try it for yourself. It will probably make hair grow on your chest (or cause it to fall out) BUT…You might be just as pleasantly surprised as what I was. Get yourself a tin of it when it is on sale, and give it a try....Read More

Nice bag note. Dark fruits with chocolate cocoa notes. From my understanding, the perique that is offered now is the single farm perique that Jeremy was talking about, and you can tell a difference versus what was used before. Its more fruity, chocolatey, and earthy then spicy. The prior version was pretty spicy. The granulated mixes very well to were you can't see it in a blend. Personally, I like the long cut better so I can cut it to the size I want. But what they are offering now IMO is much better then the prior version....Read More
