About This Pipe Tobacco

Ripe red and bright flue-cured tobaccos are joined by piquant Acadian Perique and a balanced measure of smoky dark-fired kentucky for G. L. Pease's Triple Play. The leaf is pressed and matured in cakes before being cut into 2oz bars, resulting in a bold blend for Virginia and Perique fans. This all-American plug is a winning play, no matter how you slice it.

Giving it more time in the jar

Product: G. L. Pease Triple Play 8oz
The tobaccos I enjoy are due to the relative sophistication, complexity and flavors that the master blender delivers. One thing I have come to realize for my personal palette is I find dark fired Kentucky to often do more damage than help in a blend. You can create a lot of Harmony in a bowl and then add dfk and for me it hijacks the smoke. Here it detracts from the high notes that the other tobacco's in triple play can deliver. This one's going into the long long-term deep cellar along with glp's Navigator and sixpence. Hopefully I'll be around in 9 or 10 years and this stuff will soften up or I have a Eureka moment where dfk will make sense....Read More
Dark Smoky Fruity

Product: G. L. Pease Triple Play 2oz
Like the title says. I love the plug format and the anticipation that it brings to the ritual. Medium sliced folded and stuffed it brings out subtle flavors of smoked dark fruits. I’m smoking a freshly opened can with no drying time for reference. //Update//
I allowed a few slices to dry out for two days. The smoke it produced was rich and spicy, the drying muted the smoky fruity notes. One blend, with two personalities....Read More
Respectable VAper.

Product: G. L. Pease Triple Play 2oz
I like Triple Play, because it broke my prejudice concerning Virginia blends and VApers being too weak for meaningful smoking. After opening a 3 year old tin, I found the overall flavor a combination of smoky, raisin-like, and just a little bit sweet. The strength of the blend isn't 4 stars- more like 3. The nicotine hit is there, but I bet a newbie could smoke this on an empty stomach and only catch the hiccups. Still, it's a tasty plug, and a good VA blend for guys that like Virginias but also appreciate a stout smoke. I'd say this would be a nice early afternoon blend. Doesn't blow your mind, but, good. Update; This blend has grown on me substantially. It is very satisfying and rewards you with wonderful flavor upon slowing down. The smoke is remarkably smooth. The nicotine is also quite nice. I'd say this is a Virginia blend with actual taste and strength. Try it. You owe it to yourself. Update to the Update. I'm doing 4.5 stars after smoking this in a cob for a month. This stuff is awesome; sweet, peppery, satisfying. A credit to the race of VA blends. Give me a 1lb block of it. Seriously, what a wonderful blend....Read More
Nothing extraordinary, but

Product: G. L. Pease Triple Play 2oz
it falls under my “dumb reach” smoke. I know what I’m getting into and it satisfies every time. I can smoke this blend any time of day (but not all day). Can be enjoyed with coffee in the AM or after a nice meal. Tasty through and through. Tangy, smoky, fruity, fermented goodness. The fact that I can cut it up however I choose is a fun bonus. Solid 4...Read More
