In South Korea where pipe is not that prosprous, Orlik Golden Sliced is even less popular than its reputation suggests. I don't think people in my country appreciate plain, clean tobaccos as much because most of us enjoy artificially flavored cigarettes (allegedly people consider plain Virgina tobaccos as being 'old-fashioned'). But having only smoked two types of tobacco in my life including this one, I can see why they say this is a classic and the quintessential Virginia. It made me an addict in no time! Not much more can be said after 200+ reviews. This blend is my favorite Virginia tobacco to smoke fresh. Bright and citrusy with just the right amount of VA sweetness. I recently cracked a 7 year old tin. The experience was quintessential Orlik, but with the citrus tones more subdued and the fullness of the Virginia leaf filling out and and asserting its presence. Perique? If it's there, I don't know. Maaaaaybe I can catch some perique presence when smoked aged? Seems to have a whisper of that peppered rasin experience that you would get from the perique addition. Whatever it is, it's a brilliant flake.

Flavor and burn seem more heavily reliant on properly packing the bowl than other blends. I do not stuff and fold this one, but if done properly, it's fine. Rub out the flake and pack like normal. When lighting, stay on the side of too little fire and just be OK with some additional re lights until it's burning. Then smoke slow. The minute you over light, or let the bowl get too hot, you begin to loose the subtle undertone flavors that this has to offer. Patience is key with this blend but highly worth it....Read More

As of mid November 2024, I’ve been smoking pipe tobacco for 3 months. Orlik was the first thing I smoked, and after trying a ton of other stuff running the gamut of available pipe tobaccos, I keep reaching for Virginias. I love the tangy, toasty, citrusy goodness they offer. When it comes to the standard for flake VaPers, I’d think this is right up there with what’s considered the best. This is one of those go-to's if you want to just go back to the basics a bit. A straight forward pressed golden Virginia flake. Is high in sugar and that's to be expected the oh so subtle sweetness plays in the background with notes of hay and earth at the forefront. There's also just the dicotomy that comes with every Virginia especially when pressed for a while as more notes of start to come out of the wood work you do have this slight tang that comes towards the end of the puff. A classic and def a good introduction to Virginias and maybe even flakes for that matter as the price is right! Definitely was my first full Virgina and I will say I still keep tins on hand to this day....Read More

This tobacco is absolutely perfect. Orlik is like an old, dear friend or slipping into some comfy clothes. I prefer the smaller tin, which is probably mental - but it just tastes better to me this way. This tobacco has saved angry pipes who didn't like anything, and broken in some new pipes excellently. This is one tobacco that I always come back to. I love trying new tobaccos and enjoying the variety out there, but Orlik Golden Sliced is such an amazing tobacco I can easily call my favorite. This is a tobacco that really changes depending on how you smoke it. To really get the full experience I sip the smoke in one of my smaller pipes with a 3/4" bowl paired with a nice drink. If I smoke it while working on a pipe or doing another task I smoke it too fast and don't get the full enjoyment....Read More
