This blend is still decent and likely really good with age. That being said, it has lost some leaf quality over the last 5 years. The nail in the coffin is the price. Absolutely ridiculous. You can find similar virginias that are as good or actually a lot better for almost half the price. Really sad....Read More

If you plan to buy this because you think it’s what JRR Tolkien smoked then don’t. It is a completely different blend and STG is just capitalizing on your nostalgia to overcharge for this otherwise average blend.

Not gonna make any friends with this take but I think it’s worth the price. I’ve smoked quite a few Virginia blends at this point, both new and well aged. I think this is superb for a Virginia smoke, right out of the tin (and even better aged). The slightly higher than midshelf pricetag keeps me from buying it regularly which is probably for the best because if I enjoyed this regularly I think it might potentially ruin all other Virginias for me. The flakes are super high quality and presented really nicely. I feel guilty stuffing them into a mason jar. Smells great, tastes great, smokes well in every pipe I’ve tried it in.

It is true that J. R. R. Tolkien smoked a pipe tobacco blend called Capstan Blue. This is NOT that blend. This is a cheap knockoff put out by STG which they then overcharge for. $25 for 1.75 oz of bad Virginia?! Don't be fooled by STG. Go buy a different, cheaper, and better VA blend.
