About This Pipe Tobacco
When Dunhill announced it would no longer be producing tobacco, pipe smokers rued the loss of some of their favorite mixtures. Thanks to Peterson, however, those beloved blends are still available. They're the same recipes and feature the same tin art as Dunhill's, just re-branded for Peterson.
Peterson here offers De Luxe Navy Rolls — a coin-cut Virginia/Perique blend that combines hand-stripped Brazilian and African Virginias with Perique from Louisiana for a pleasant, medium-bodied smoke.

I blame the wonderful Malcolm Guite for his love of this tobacco. Having now gotten myself some, I can undoubtedly say I'm a huge fan. Lovely sugary sweetness with overtones of baked bread and smooth herbal notes.

s measured, never sharp, serving more as structure than spotlight. What distinguishes DNR is its composure: it’s neither bright nor brooding, but poised, classic, and deeply traditional. The smoke is cool, steady, and contemplative, rewarding slow cadence and thoughtful attention. This is a Va/Per that doesn’t rush to impress—it earns appreciation over time. A true staple blend, excellent fresh and exceptionally well-suited for aging, where the Virginias deepen and the Perique integrates into a seamless, wine-like complexity....Read More
Introductions and Friendship

bowl prepared by folding and stuffing two coins, told a very different story. It opened with fresh hay, citrus, and a pastry-like sweetness before gradually deepening into darker flavors of bread, pumpernickel, and subtle rye-like spice. As the bowl settled, a rich molasses sweetness emerged, followed by notes of wood, leather, and a smooth black pepper warmth that lingered pleasantly in the finish.
What impressed me most was not any single flavor, but the blend's ability to change character based on preparation. Rubbed out, it was bright, direct, and spice-forward. Folded and stuffed, it became slower, deeper, and more contemplative. Neither approach felt superior; each simply revealed a different side of the same tobacco.
Deluxe Navy Rolls is not a blend of dramatic crescendos or grand finales. It is more like a good conversation that begins with introductions, settles into comfortable company, and eventually ends with a quiet, "Well, I should be going. Let's do this again."
Update- This is probably closer to 4.7 if I average the rubbed out experience & the fold n stuff. But given the options I ended up with 4.5. Good smoke either way....Read More

s opening up quite a bit now and pleasant smoke. A good vaper with some sweetness and dark fruit, mild on the perique spice. I’m enjoying it much more now. So, I recommend you plan ahead if you’re wanting to smoke it. Open the tin, get some air on the coins and jar them. Let sit for a couple months before smoking them. Can’t wait to try it aged after a few years. YMMV....Read More
