About This Pipe Tobacco

Five Brothers, originally blended by the five Finzer brothers well over a century ago, keeps things simple and is entirely made from air-cured, shag-cut Burley. That is not, however, to say that it is without distinction. It's a strong blend and can also be used as a blending component with other mixtures.

Ive been buying this for years and I just looked at an invoice from a year ago and it was $4.48 a pouch!!! A year later and now it's freaking $6.15 a pouch! That's ridiculous.

Last year I made the switch to pipe smoking and this was one of the first ones I picked up to try, since it’s what the Amish fellas I worked with smoked back in the day. I was always told it was very strong…well they weren’t lying, this stuff will put hair on your chest! To be honest I found it too strong at first, so I put it away and found some Virginia blends I fell in love with. Having worked my way up to (and running out of ) Sam Gawith’s 1792, and craving some burley strength, I decided to give it another try…man it really knocked my socks off! This stuff is so good, I find it especially perfect for kicking those other maybe weaker blends up a notch. So far I tried it with Orlik golden slices. It was insanely great. Then I blended with some Pirate Kake for a Latakia fix. I’m convinced you could blend this with anything for a nutty nicotine boost. Smoke on its own when you need a real kick in the face. I read that the leaves are still grown in Kentucky and the blend dates back to the 1860s. Very cool if still true. I’d like to find more leaf grown in the states. Five Bros is a man’s tobacco. Makes you wanna get up and work with your hands. And so cheap. No wonder those guys loved it so much!...Read More

Where’s the nicotine everyone was talking about? I don’t notice any difference in strength, it’s just like Prince Albert to me.

This blend is great to break in a pipe. I've used it for several with much success. It's great to add a little vitamin N or tobacco flavor to a weaker or less flavorful aromatic. The price point is great, so it's also perfect for the first pinch in a pipe of rarer tobacco you don't wish to waste any dottle. Very versitile, decent flavor by itself. Three stars for flavor, five stars for versitility, four stars overall....Read More
Prefect, for what it is: no nonsense consistency. (WTF!? Don't skew the ratings!)

I discovered this blend when my Ropp J06 arrived, lo these many years ago. That thing is tiny, which is perfect for this blend. I always rehydrate it, since it's so dry. I don't smoke it often, but there are those times when nothing else will do. I always have some available. Sometimes, lack of sleep will dull my palate, but this blend consistently delivers. Until right now, I've never managed to think of blend I'd want to amp up with this (see below).

Before that, though, I gotta say, I hate it when a reviewer's opinions, beyond their thoughts of a blend, are reflected in the rating. I'm fine with complaints in the title/body of the review about price, or whatever, we all want to be heard.

There was a lot of griping about C&D We Three Kings availability recently, when it first dropped. Ironically, it was back in stock quickly (by the time I looked), but there were so many one-star ratings, for it being out of stock. It needed to be restocked at least once again, but it was readily available for quite a while.

I didn't feel right about mentioning an unrelated blend, though I just realized I should try mixing this with We Three Kings. I think that could work nicely.
