Cornell & Diehl: Burley Flake #1 2oz Pipe Tobacco

It's alright. Wasn't blown away, but its a very good smoke. A proper smoke. But probably won't get another. If this is all you had, you'd still be in good shape. Definitely a good blend. It's just nothing special

I could smoke this all the time but due to the price i enjoy it when i can really sit back and sip this blend, pretty sure i already wrote a review for this buuuut, im hoping C&D may see these reviews, and if they are, id LOVE to see burley flake #1 come in the unsliced plug form, ir any of the burley flakes for that Matter, i feel like it would give a whole new perspective to this plug, similar to jackknife plug and ready rubbed, its the same stuff but left in plug form alter the flavor and taste, but anywho these flakes are a fine plug, not for the pipe rookie tho this might make em green and scare em away from the pipe haha...Read More

This is my favorite tobacco...just under 1792 which I cannot get that...I love tobacco

If you’re looking for a clean basic down to earth tobacco you can mindlessly smoke without worry of bite and solid chops you found it.

Brings out the sweet and nutty essence and very little bitter. Toasty goodness. Not sure if it's the best of the CD Burley flakes or not. It's the first I've tried but it's a winner.

Sweet nutty , hint of cocoa plenty of nicotine, this could be my all day blend

I'll start with the flavor which is every thing in the tin note transfered to the smoke. I got that nice burly cocoa and nutty flavor that coupled with the raisin type flavor from the perique, which for me did really spice up the blend. Then add that deep dark red virginia sweetness with a hint of that bready bakery ahh was like magic. At times I thought it tasted just like raisinet candy but like a dark chocolate version. This blend never got bitter on me never bit even when pushed and don't push it cause it will knock you out. I'm no stranger to nicotine been a copenhagen user since I was in high school and yes I still have all my teeth lol. But I totally disrespected this blend the first half of the bowl had my head spinning and a bit nauseated from the power. I put it down for 30min. came back and smoked it very slow and didn't have any issues. I will be getting more. Not an everyday smoke but a few times a week smoke for me. I smoke a lot of burley’s and Va/per’s and this is a perfect combination. The Perique is about 35% and gives this blend that little kick of rich spice. The Virginia adds a perfect amount of sweetness, with the burley’s toasty nutty flavor it’s a repeat buy for me.

Full disclosure, I'm not really a Burley guy. The delicate flakes pack easily. The tobacco stays lit with almost no effort (I was outside in a light intermittent breeze, smoking a medium size Oom Paul). The expected Dark Burley nicotine strength is there. There is just enough Perique to notice in every puff. The Red Virginia seems to be there to moderate the Burley, but doesn't seem to contribute much flavor. I actually don't detect any sweetness at all. Overall it is mildly bitter to my palate, but very smooth with a medium body. I can't say I loved it, or even liked it overmuch, but I didn't hate it.
