I kept this tin for exactly two years. Good complexity to the nose when opening. Fruits, spices, hay, sweet bread and weak chocolate.
An interesting blend of Virginia and Perique. Interestingly, the mixture was named in honor of Pierre Chenet.
The perique portion is large, about 30%, but a surprisingly smooth blend.
Very cool, slow burning cake.
Good aftertaste....Read More

I have a tin of this blend from 2020.
Seven more years and it will be ready to try.
As for any negative reviews,,, you opened it too early!
While I jest, there is a point to be made about a “cellar” series.
My understanding is they will be ready in about ten years from the package date.
Similar to Mount Rushmore not being the Artists vision until ten thousand years of weathering, so this blend was not ready when made.
Lucky for us we only wait ten years!!...Read More

Tin note of stewed sour plums, spiced Rasin bread, and tart dark fruit. The moist marbled reddish tan, brown, and dark brown Krumble Kake breaks apart easily and may need some drying. Burns slow with multiple relights. The strength is medium and nic is medium. No flavoring detected. Taste is medium to full and somewhat consistent, with notes of very earth, very spicy, woody, bread, sour lemon, tangy raisin, mildly floral, mild sweet grass, mild dark chocolate, and a very peppery retro. The evenly matched Perique and Virginias are locked in a grudge match. Room note is pleasant to tolerable, and aftertaste is great....Read More

Good little blend. It’s not the perique powerhouse it advertises though. I think that bayou night is a more prominent perique. However it is pretty tasty and the cake provides a very well married flavor that definitely is worth having. Like many of the other Cellar series blends I get a woodier note than most others....Read More

More than the peppery spice common in blends with lower amounts of perique, in this blend, the high amount of the component produces notes of fig and other dark fruits, like plum. Age it for at least a year. If you are a devout vaper smoker, you will not be disappointed.

So, my tastes are as follows: 90% English, 5% VaPer, 5% "others". One the occasion that I get a hankering for a VaPer, THIS is the type of blend I want. Not one of those blends that make you wonder if there's actually any Perique in it, but a front and center blend. One the occasion that I cheat on Lady Latakia, I want to be sure it's worth it. That's where this blend comes in. Spicy, deliciously flavorful and wholly satisfying....Read More
Top Notch Virginia/Perique

I thought the flavours of the tobacco were fantastic. The tin note smells very fruity but also has a very strong acidic/fermentation note. I actually liked it to be honest. I know it's meant to be cellared it but I cracked a year old tin and boy was it harsh on the retrohale. I found the perique very plummy and peppery with a definite sweetness from the Virginia. All around I thought it was quite enjoyable. I popped into a tobacconist out of town and managed to find a 4 year old tin. I'm gonna put at least 6 more years on it before I pop it. EDIT: I let this stuff sit for about a year before I tried it again. Whether my taste changed, I gained more smoking experience or age did the trick, I absolutely love this now. From 3.5 to 5 stars. This stuff is delicious and I would definitely consider the perique to be as equally spicy as it is fruity. I also can taste the burley in it a more now but it's just enough to bring the whole smoke together and not necessarily add much burley flavour....Read More

Although it's not made with the 'real' St. James Parish Perique, this cake is a treat for fans of the stout and smelly condiment tobacco. A healthy amount of Perique combines with Virginias to make a wonderful tin note and a cohesive flavor that's spicy, but not full of bite and it won't burn your nose hairs off. If you like the spicy side of Perique, you'll like this. It's not all pepper, but this is definitely more peppery than the mildly sweet, dark fruit variety, as C&D's Perique tends to lean. It does have a very pleasant dark fruit aroma though. This of course may change with time. Especially since this blend is from their Cellar Series, I'd imagine that with some age that it's going to transform considerably. The pleasantly bready, bright/golden Virginias make up a solid and tasty backbone of this cake. They didn't overdo it with the red Virginia content, and I'm glad for that. The golden Virginias and the Perique combine in a wonderful, 'high-octane' VA-Per that is faintly reminiscent of Elizabethan Mixture in its balance of naturally bready and spicy flavors, and in nicotine content. The nicotine is about 6 out of 10—not overwhelming but definitely noticeable. My tin was about nine months old, and it was a delicious smoke right out of the tin - so delicious that I had five pipefuls in one evening! Chenet's Cake is yet another winner in the Cellar Series lineup. As they say in Louisiana, "C'est bon!"...Read More

Product: Cornell & Diehl Chenet's Cake 2oz
This blend is recommended for a 10-15 year aging. However, the age of my sample is only 1 year, so I expect balance will improve with time and this may become a 5-star blend when properly aged.
Medium-light color, in a cleanly-cut cake, with a small bit of loose added to make weight. Nice complexity to the nose. Fruit, spice, hay, sweet
bread and faint chocolate. Cake shreds to fine, short rough ribbon that burns quickly. Relatively unbalanced flavor with the perique quite
dominant. A rich smoke with significant perique evident in retrohale. Buy to lay down, not to smoke now....Read More
