Low Country - Crescent Rising 2oz
Very Good Virginias
If Jeremy Reeves does anything well, it’s blending Virginias. Crescent Rising is no exception. Popping the tin, you get some sweet and bready aromas with a touch of dark fruit. Though not overly moist, I let it dry about 30 minutes. The sweet, dark fruit notes came through nicely in the bowl. I enjoyed it a lot. Since this was my first time trying Low Country, I only bought a tin each of five blends. I enjoyed this a bit more than Edisto, but both will only get better with age.
Low Country - Pee Dee 2oz
Complex and Interesting Blend
The first thing you note when opening the tin is the smell of rich chocolate fudge cake. What’s interesting is I didn’t get a lot of that in the bowl. Pee Dee can be smoked right away, but I like drying it a bit. It’s a nicely complex smoke. Through the first half of the bowl there was this great little interplay between the burleys and Virginias, with the perique give an ever-present background spice. The last half of the bowl is my favorite. You start to get some dark fruit, but it’s complimentary rather than ever becoming overpowering. It’s definitely grown on me with every bowl, and I always seem to notice something new.
Cornell & Diehl - Midnight Orchard 2oz
Is This Really an Aromatic?
I love how Cornell & Diehl blend their Virginias together so well. That comes shining through in Midnight Orchard. This is all about the Virginias. Any toppings are deftly mild, and the perique adds a little background spice. There are notes of citrus here and there. Toward the end of the bowl you get some light baking spices. There are none of the goopy, tongue-coating toppers you get from many aromatics.

Tasting Notes: G.L. Pease Zeitgeist Metropolis Flake
- ► That’s a great description, Shane. I very occasionally enjoy a lat bomb, but I’m more intrigued by blends with Latakia in the background. The one word that keeps coming to mind with Metropolis is “chewy.” I think this may be one of those blends where you notice something different each time you partake.
