A Fond Farewell: Paolo Becker

Where the elder Becker took comfort in more traditional forms, the younger sought to carve his own way. Carve it he did, throughout the years experimenting with, altering, and innovating his designs, as well as freely adopting alternative mediums and the unique challenges working with them presented.
Paolo Becker is gone, but he made his mark. Hundreds of marks, in fact, and so they remain with us — whether as favorite daily smokers or as fussed-over prize pieces of a collection. And any time someone in the know, as regards the art of pipes, sees one, even if it should be generations from now, we'll safely wager they'll know that what they are looking at, is a Paolo.

Great write up for for a truly great carver. He will be missed, but never forgotten.
We all pass through this life...and a few leave a part of us behind. So it is with Paolo.
Good heavens, I'm so sorry to hear that. I was just admiring some of his work and stumbled upon your announcement. My condolences.
I enjoyed the tribute.
I will look to locate one of his creations.
I was privileged to meet Paolo on many occasions, including in his workshop and in the home of mutual friends.
While he often presented as very quiet and reserved, he could also be very open, and possessed of a great sense of humor and playfulness.
Paolo was, sadly, not a close friend, but I think we considered one another as more than mere acquaintances.
