Mystery Review: April 2026

Welcome to another episode of Mystery Review, our monthly series in which our panel of experts attempts to identify a mystery tobacco. For April's edition, our guest Inquisitor is Jennifer Murray, Production Supervisor at Cornell & Diehl. Will her mysterious submission leave us bewildered, or will we correctly guess the tobacco she's presented to us? Join us as we discuss what we think this mystery smoke is and make our best guesses. Watch to the end to discover whether we succeed in the identification or crumble under the pressure.

What is The Mystery Review?

For those unfamiliar with our little game, each month, one member of our team — or sometimes an honored guest Inquisitor — selects a tobacco for us to review in a blind taste test. Then we gather around the camera, scratch our heads, and smoke, all while attempting to guess the mysterious submission, its manufacturer, and, if we're lucky, its name.

Maybe I shouldn't comment rt now, I just had my box (5L) of wine (9% abv) with my dinner. Shane, I totally despise the word "Smooth" as a descriptor and it should be banned from the English language...why does it even exist. But, fudge sticks, the bourbon (Smooth Ambler: Old Scout) that I chased the wine with was hella smooth. I'm on the Winston Churchill liquid diet, and it is going smashingly. Alan, I can appreciate your great taste in music, Ozzy rules (just bought a tshirt). I have a similar fishhook story, but it involved a body part that I can't mention here...PeeDee... haven't tried it yet...I just left the hook in as a 'free of charge' body piercing. Noticing those gold bags and tins over Steve's left shoulder. Care to hook (ha!) a brutha up? Bravo, fellas. But, really, all that bleepin' censorship needs to go. It is possible to curse tastefully. What is this, Mr. Rodger's Neighborhood? I couldn't help but to notice how quickly the conversation deflected and went off topic of nicotine strength after Alan let the "N" word fly. If "We the people" don't stand up, one day big brother will be genetically engineering tobacco and regulating our nicotine intake. Just kidding 😂 Cool pipes, everybody. Andy!

This was one of the most entertaining episodes of "Mystery Review" ever. I'm intrigued by Pee Dee and would love to try a sample; the downside would be the intensity because my constitution just wasn't designed to handle strong blends. Keep up the excellent work, guys!

I always enjoy the Mystery Review. I especially enjoy hearing the "pipe check" portion. I do have a respectful suggestion: I enjoy pipes across the economic spectrum and am fortunate to afford a number of artisan pipes. At the same time I also enjoy many mid-range factory made pipes. I suspect that Smokingpipes.com really runs on the purchases of factory and non-artisan pipes made by the broad swath of your customer base. It would therefore, I suggest, be prudent to make a concerted effort to have the guys on the panel mix up their pipes of choice and feature less expensive pipes, thus letting the customers know what their own experience might be like with a particular blend. I know that Andy sometimes smokes a Peterson during the reviews.
Certainly Former, J.Alan, Eltang and Yeti et al make great pipes but most customers drive Ford, Honda and Dodge products. Just a respectful suggestion.

How did it feel to fail 1,000 times while inventing the light bulb? - Reporter

I didn’t fail 1,000 times. The light bulb was an invention with 1,000 steps. - Thomas Edison
