Note: The following transcription has been edited for clarity and brevity.
[Tyler Caldwell]: We have something special here for you today. We are talking about Warped El Oso.
[Alan Britt]: El Oso season is back. It feels like it's been a couple years.
[TC]: It's been a little bit, man.
[AB]: El Oso has been one of the most notoriously difficult Warped cigars to find because it's super limited, but also it is just not made that often. They're rolled by hand by the good folks in Little Havana, Miami, at El Titan de Bronze.
[TC]: El Oso originally came out in 2014, and since then it's only been released a handful of times in a few vitolas.
El Oso Papa, Blanco, and Primo
The Papa is based on the original blend of the El Oso line. You're gonna have Dominican and Nicaraguan fillers, an Ecuadorian binder, and Ecuadorian Habano Oscuro for the wrapper.
[AB]: It's a little darker than your typical Habano you would find. This release for 2025 is the first time that the 6" x 48 Belicoso size has returned since the original. El Oso has been available in a couple sizes since then, but it's the return of the OG.
[TC]: As well as a Smokingpipes exclusive Primo in a Short Corona Gorda vitola.
[AB]: The Blanco also returns in its second release. This is the first time that we've seen multiple El Osos at one time. Blanco debuted around 2022 in a 6" x 48 Belicoso. This was a really fun one when it was released.
I remember we were both working at the shop at the time when we got these in, and we smoked through a lot of 'em. They sold really well. It's a crazy profile and a really interesting combination of two of Warped's most elusive and sought-after cigars. It features the same binder and filler as the original El Oso, albeit with some tweaks in the percentages in the filler. But it also features the Ecuadorian Desflorado wrapper that is on La Colmena which, if you know anything about Warped Cigars, La Colmena season is up there. It's a phenomenal Connecticut-wrapped cigar.
El Oso Strength & Flavor Notes
[TC]: If I could touch a little bit on the strength of El Oso, I would automatically categorize this as smack dab in the middle. When it comes to body and intensity of flavor, I don't get a whole lot of nicotine strength from it but I could see someone who is more of an occasional smoker saying this might touch a little higher than that.
[AB]: Yeah, especially in these thinner vitolas. I feel like the Primo ticks it up to maybe medium plus but the 6" x 48 should be a little more subdued.
[TC]: As far as flavor profile, to me, I get a leathery note, a bit of a creamy coffee kind of mixture, and woodsy oakiness to go behind that as well. With the wrapper that they're using for the Papa here, I find it a little bit more of a spicier tone.
[AB]: Yeah, I agree. El Oso just reminds me of fall. It has this warm, welcoming kind of fall spice to it. I compare it to a bourbon barrel. It's got that oakiness, but it's got that sweetness that you would associate with whiskey, whereas in the Blanco format with that Desflorado wrapper, I feel like it's a more subdued, nuanced version. You get these brighter, citrusy notes.
[TC]: That's a really good way to put it.
[AB]: Yeah, you still get all of that rich core, it just feels a little more nuanced and a little bit milder.
[TC]: With the Papa here, like I said, there's a creamy tone to it but with the Blanco, I find that creamy tone definitely intensifies quite a bit. As we touched on earlier, El Osos aren't released very often. Exclusivity means, get them while you can. I can see both of these going out very quickly.
El Oso Sampler Pack
Anyone who does miss that boat, I would recommend our sampler pack that we have. It's also a good way to get a selection of all three so that you can experience them for yourself. You'll get the Blanco, the Papa, and the Primo.
I would love to know what people think of the difference between smoking a Papa and a Primo. Do you get anything significantly different? Even though you're getting technically the same blend, it's always said that different vitolas can potentially give you different aspects to the flavor.
[AB]: For sure. I like to call cigars like these super premiums. They come with a bit of a higher price tag, so I think purchasing the sampler gives you a little discount to try them all. It's a good way to sample the experience of El Oso in its entirety.
[TC]: Absolutely. With anything that we have that you can see here, whether you're buying one of each, a sampler pack, or whatever you're looking to get, you're going to get that premium quality with the products. You're also gonna have something that is great for celebratory smokes, something that will age well if you're a collector, as well as a cigar to smoke immediately that will give you an incredible experience.
[AB]: Warped and El Oso, specifically, have been around for over a decade now. They've really cemented their place in the cigar industry and it's worth the price of admission.
