About This Pipe
While there is much to commend each and every Castello series, my two favorites are the Old Antiquari, with its beautiful sandblasts, and the Collection Occhio Di Pernice series, which always, as one might expect, sports extraordinary birdseye. I'm a sucker for good birdseye. It excites me in a way that straight grain simply doesn't. I know that puts me in the minority, but so be it. This piece features truly extraordinary birdseye on the left side of the bowl--tight, intricate, intertwined--with small strips of horizontal grain on the front and back, and more birdseye on the right side. The briar ferrule, with straight grain of its own, is the perfect complement to the birdseye-replete bent egg.
