About This Pipe
I have a bit of a soft spot for these sorts of gracefully drooping stems (perhaps why I'm so partial to hawkbills), and this is an especially well executed example of pulling the look off on a shape inherently difficult to match just such a stem to correctly. Too often, the impression left is of a straight apple on which someone just rudely tweaked the end of the stem. In profile you can see that this briar's stem bends, almost drapes, much more gradually from the shank, and that the forward cant of the bowl's rear face does a great deal to tie the whole form together.
