The act of apostasy defines an event wherein one refuses to follow or obey the tenets of a faith or religious organization, the commission of which then makes one an apostate. Apostate Cigars was founded in 2021 by Kendrick Woolstenhulme and Brandon Overson, both former members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, who named their company in reference to the Mormon stricture of abstaining from tobacco. Founded in rebellion, Apostate Cigars aims to blend the traditional with the unorthodox, creating unique cigars that are as rich with flavor as they are with story.

Moroni's trumpet is named in reference to the Mormon Angel Moroni, whose image is seen often in LDS iconography blowing a trumpet, said to signal the spreading of the gospel throughout the world. Blend-wise, it features a Mexican San Andrés Oscuro wrapper, a Dominican Olor binder, and fillers from United States and the Dominican Republic. A hearty, deeply flavorful cigar, Moroni's Trumpet offers tasting notes of cocoa, spice, and cream. This particular cigar is part of the Eight Witnesses subseries, a line containing all eight of Apostate's blends in a single, 4.5 x 44 Petit Corona vitola.
