St. Bruno was originally conceived in the 1890s by Thomas Ogden, a businessman who had started a tobacco shop in 1860 along Park Lane in Liverpool, England. Within a few years, Ogden opened several other shops throughout Liverpool, and after seeing how successful his retail operation was, Ogden decided to venture into manufacturing, establishing his first factory in 1866. By 1890, Ogden owned six small factories and a snuff mill. Since its beginnings, St. Bruno has become a staple pipe tobacco, with Mac Baren taking over production in 2006 and purchasing the blend completely in 2015.
