With Cuban roots dating to 1892, Fonseca is a heritage brand named for Francisco E. Fonseca. Francisco was a prominent Cuban cigar maker and pioneer who also produced cigars in New York, and his innovations include enveloping cigars in tin-foil tubes and special paper to preserve and protect the wrappers. Outside of Cuba, Fonseca cigars were manufactured and supervised for 45 years by the Quesada family in the Dominican Republic, maintaining Fonseca cigars' well-balanced, traditionally Cuban flavor profile. In 2012, the Quesadas partnered with the Garcias of My Father to release the Tres Reynas series, and that relationship eventually led to the production of Fonseca cigars transitioning to the Garcias in 2019. Now, Fonseca cigars are handmade in Nicaragua, benefiting from the expertise and quality standards that have made the Garcias and My Father cigars icons within the industry.
