Smokingpipes Roasts is our private house line of whole bean coffees. We set out to find the highest-quality coffees we could and partner with roasters we know and trust to bring each one to life. Each coffee is selected with the same attention to quality that we bring to everything we do, from carefully sourced beans to thoughtful roasting that highlights what makes each one unique. As the line grows, we'll continue working with our favorite roasters to bring new coffees to Smokingpipes that you won't find anywhere else.

This roast was developed and selected by our team in collaboration with Methodical, with careful consideration given to every part of the process. The selection process included blind tastings of numerous coffees, allowing the team to compare different origins, processing methods, and flavor profiles before settling on the final product.

Ethiopia is widely recognized as the birthplace of coffee, with a rich history and culture surrounding the beloved beverage. Wild Hymn is a light-roast, single-origin Ethiopian coffee inspired by the classic legend of Kaldi, an Ethiopian goatherd who is said to have noticed his goats leaping and refusing to sleep after eating bright red coffee cherries. According to the legend, Kaldi brought the cherries to a nearby monastery, where a monk disapproved of them and threw them into the fire. As the beans roasted, their enticing aroma caught the monks' attention. They raked the beans from the fire, ground them, and dissolved them in water, creating a drink that helped them stay awake through long hours of prayer.

This story remains one of the most well-known tales associated with the discovery of coffee, and Wild Hymn celebrates Ethiopia's coffee heritage with beans prized for their complexity and vibrant fruit character. We're extremely proud of this naturally processed East African coffee, offering tasting notes of tangerine, fruit punch, and apple butter. Its expressive character makes it an excellent choice for pour-over or espresso while remaining equally enjoyable as a drip coffee.
