About This Pipe Tobacco

A tribute to Missouri Meerschaum's General Manager and tobacco aficionado Phil Morgan, Lord Morgan is a special collaboration blend between the world's oldest corn cob pipe factory and Sutliff. A complex and surprisingly potent English blend, Lord Morgan combines 65% Cypriot Latakia with select Orientals, Virginias, Burleys, and a dash of Perique, and the mixture is aged for nine months in top-shelf bourbon barrels before being pressed into the dense cakes that have made Sutliff's Crumble Kake series so popular.

Lagavulin in a bowl?
March 26, 2023
Product: Missouri Meerschaum Lord Morgan 1.5oz
Smokey, whisky flavors. My first impression is Lagavulin in a pipe bowl. Whisky stays strong, not overpowering. Burns well. Leaves me with a fuzzy mouth feeling that I tend to get from aromatics, so I am wondering if there is something here besides the bourbon? Without that, it would easily be four-stars. YMMV....Read More

Tin note of fruity and smoky. Tobacco is a Krumble Kake of black with a little dark brown. Moisture content is ok, some pipe smokers will want to dry this a bit. Kake breaks apart and rubs out easily. Burns slow once lit with any relights. The strength is medium and nic is mild. Flavoring is mild, with notes of sweet Burbon. Sweet Burbon moves to the background within the first 1/4 and becomes sporadic afterwards. Taste is medium and mostly consistent, with notes of smoky, sweet bourbon, spices, floral, peaty vegetation, burnt toast, wood, herbal incense, sour hay, earth, lemon grass, leather, dried dark fruit, orange peel/zest, a tangy citrus background note, and a peppery retro. Latakia is leading with Burley, Flavoring, Oriental/Turkish, Perique and Virginia supporting. Room note is tolerable to strong and aftertaste is good....Read More

I typically sample a pipe upon opening a tin then jar for a year no matter what. After a year this stuff goes from good to amazing. Im my mind this is exactly what a pipe tobacco should smell and taste like. Very smooth, no bite. Great all day smoke.
Decent Blend

Most "aromatic English" blends are cavendish thrown into a normal English blend to sweeten it up a bit. I don't really care for them. This "aromatic English" is quite different, though. With a heavy dose (65%) of Latakia, this one doesn't have room for such sweeteners. The remaining 35% is Virginia, some burley, and a bit of Perique. But aromatic it is. Beautifully, lushly so. Its sweetening agent is the bourbon cask it was stored in, which made it a bit moist, uniformly dark, and fully loaded with a wonderful, boozy smell. This is a nightcap smoke, and an occasional one at that. It doesn't taste like a lat-bomb, despite the high proportion. This blend achieves something different -- a heady, nice-smelling, deeply flavored "dram." I visited Sutliff's factory in Richmond, Va., more than a year ago, and the tour guide showed us a run of this and commented on it. "This will be something special," he said. He was right....Read More
