Product: Seattle Pipe Club Potlatch 2oz
Tin note of smoky, pungent sour fruit and chocolate. Tobacco is a ribbon cut of black and brown with a little dark brown and tan mixed in. Moisture content is good. Some pipe smokers will want to dry it a bit. Burns slow with a few relights. The strength is medium and nic is mild to medium. No flavoring detected despite tin note. Taste is medium to full and mostly consistent, with complex notes of peaty vegetation, floral, dry, herbal spices, tangy sweet dark fruit, smoky incense, fermented sour, slightly spicy, woody, sugar, zesty citrus, toast, leather, bitter orange peel, a nuts and lemon grass background note, and a peppery retro. Burley is leading with Cavendish, Latakia, Oriental/Turkish, Perique, Virginia supporting. Room note is pleasant to tolerable, and aftertaste is great....Read More
A lot going on

They say this blend has everything but the kitchen sink, and when you look at the tobacco you definitely see there is a lot going on in one tin. And not surprisingly, it all seems to work exceptionally well together. I have smoked most of the SPC blends, and this will always rank in the top 3 for me....Read More

I enjoy my burleys so this was a definite try for me. As I did enjoy it when I got it fresh, it didn't entice me back. I put a quarter pound in some jars and cellared them. A significant improvement. The latakia settles down a bit. It's very earthy, walnuts ? Delicious.
Not for me.

Good cut, moisture content, and smoked down to a nice white ash. Unfortunately, it tasted like old lady soap and left an aftertaste that lingered for a couple hours. Much higher in nicotine than expected.
A rich, full and tasty blend

This is a very good, rich blend of tobaccos. Very much full-bodied, it is strong but not over the top. The latakia is on the back end. The orientals and VA's are upfront and center with zip, tang, and sweet notes, while the perique throws in some spice and kick. the cavendish I think just kind of tones each leaf down a bit, and provides consistency between them throughout the bowl. I do wish it had a tad more smokey-ness to it, but it is a good solid blend with high end rich tobacco. Plum pudding I tend to enjoy more, but this was a nice change....Read More

This is a smooth, consistently burning, well balanced, blend. It has a slight sweetness, and is a very pleasant smoke. In my opinion it is an all day blend and I enjoy it more than Mississippi River. Not more than PP however.
So sublime

This is amazing tobacco! The flavor is great with only tobacco, and keeps changing in the mouth. The reason for the changes is the size of the cut. You taste mostly one leaf at a time with others around it because it is so large. I love it and find myself puffing harder and harder to taste more and more! I really enjoy it and have NEVER been disappointed in it or its flavors. This was my first encounter with Seattle Pipe Club and I'd like to try more if they are like this!...Read More

I've never been more disappointed in a mixture as I was with Potlatch. I waited years to try it and was so excited to finally have the opportunity. The tin note had me excited - it's VERY reminiscent of McClelland. Seriously... the tin note is like no other today - SPECTACULAR! However, that's where the excitement ended. Potlatch is very earthy (dark burley), peppery and the latakia and perique annoyingly linger. The only remarkable leaf nuance is the Turkish... Yenidje perhaps? It's a very unique but elusive flavor that I miss since McClelland closed, and I swear that's what's used in this. I'll give two stars on that alone. This reminds me of some of McClelland's mediocre products... a mixture of quality leaf that's frustratingly unbalanced. The potential's there, but the blender just couldn't deliver. It's so close to a McClelland offering in fact, that I'm curious if perhaps Mike McNeil had a hand in this somehow. While it's not a bad mixture, it was so disappointing....Read More
Great Rich Blend That Pleases

Another great SPC Mix. Latakia is up front throughout but, beautifully balanced by the woodsy Burleys and the lemon-grass VAs. The perique adds spice but, doesn’t overpower. Great smoke from char to dottle.

I can see how this blend is confusing for some. Top of the bowl for me was dominated by the red VAs and perique- Piquant with fruit and vinegar. The latakia is always noticeable throughout, but does not bury the other tobacco. The orientals are great as well. Sour at first and spicy towards the finish. Behind it all you get the burley that really fills the role of canvas here. The Cavendish is thankfully far in the background. Just a faint hint of its vanilla, paper notes and just the slightest threat of bite. A solid blend that will be liked by some and a loved by others. For me, this would get 4 stars without the Cavendish. As it stands I'd give it 3/4 or 3.5/5...Read More
