Seattle Pipe Club tobaccos have caught my interest since I began reading about them. I was bowled over at how many types of tobacco were employed in each blend. Of course, the reviews are all solid, and thus, mine will be as well! The tin design is a... Read More
ttractive, resembling North American heritage. The size of the tin is larger than what normally contains 50 gms of tobacco. Upon opening, the tobacco appears to have some breathing room and not shoved in there. Surprisingly, the tin note wasn’t latakia heavy, but smelled of ketchup and fresh virginias and orientals. It was certainly fresh, but felt ready to smoke. It sure was! I’ve never used the word “creamy” to describe a tobacco as of yet, but will for this one. The components have been blended brilliantly. The latakia is in the background; more so than you would find in a blend such as Dunhill’s London Mixture for example, where the other tobaccos are allowed to shine. As smooth as it is, it is rich in flavour. What I enjoy most is its complexity. I can’t quite discern each tobacco on its own, but rather the marriage of them to create a full and enjoyable mixture. I've never been more disappointed in a mixture as I was with Potlatch. I waited years to try it and was so excited to finally have the opportunity. The tin note had me excited - it's VERY reminiscent of McClelland. Seriously... the tin note is like... Read More
no other today - SPECTACULAR! However, that's where the excitement ended. Potlatch is very earthy (dark burley), peppery and the latakia and perique annoyingly linger. The only remarkable leaf nuance is the Turkish... Yenidje perhaps? It's a very unique but elusive flavor that I miss since McClelland closed, and I swear that's what's used in this. I'll give two stars on that alone. This reminds me of some of McClelland's mediocre products... a mixture of quality leaf that's frustratingly unbalanced. The potential's there, but the blender just couldn't deliver. It's so close to a McClelland offering in fact, that I'm curious if perhaps Mike McNeil had a hand in this somehow. While it's not a bad mixture, it was so disappointing. Read Less

Satisfying All Day English

Product: Seattle Pipe Club Potlatch 2oz
While I'm not well versed in the wide world of English blends, I decided to give this a try. I think it is indeed a beautifully balanced smoke. You can taste the Virginia and Latakia up front, but the Perique is present especially towards the middle ... Read More

I enjoy my burleys so this was a definite try for me. As I did enjoy it when I got it fresh, it didn't entice me back. I put a quarter pound in some jars and cellared them. A significant improvement. The latakia settles down a bit. It's very earthy, ... Read More

This is amazing tobacco! The flavor is great with only tobacco, and keeps changing in the mouth. The reason for the changes is the size of the cut. You taste mostly one leaf at a time with others around it because it is so large. I love it and fi... Read More

Joe Lankford is really good. Combining this many tobaccos and having them all work together to create a smooth, enjoyable smoke is not an easy thing. Potlatch is a nice change of pace for me. I smoke a lot of Latakia forward blends, like Plum Pudding... Read More
. This blend has a smoky Latakia element to it that compliments the sweetness of the Cavendish. The Burley provides a nutty richness and body. While the Bright Virginias and Orientals add a zesty sweetness and floral note to the blend. The Perique adds a bit of that musty, peppery essence which fits in rather nicely. It’s another truly great blend from SPC. Read Less

Tin note of smoky, pungent sour fruit and chocolate. Tobacco is a ribbon cut of black and brown with a little dark brown and tan mixed in. Moisture content is good. Some pipe smokers will want to dry it a bit. Burns slow with a few relights. The stre... Read More
ngth is medium and nic is mild to medium. No flavoring detected despite tin note. Taste is medium to full and mostly consistent, with complex notes of peaty vegetation, floral, dry, herbal spices, tangy sweet dark fruit, smoky incense, fermented sour, slightly spicy, woody, sugar, zesty citrus, toast, leather, bitter orange peel, a nuts and lemon grass background note, and a peppery retro. Burley is leading with Cavendish, Latakia, Oriental/Turkish, Perique, Virginia supporting. Room note is pleasant to tolerable, and aftertaste is great. Read Less

They say this blend has everything but the kitchen sink, and when you look at the tobacco you definitely see there is a lot going on in one tin. And not surprisingly, it all seems to work exceptionally well together. I have smoked most of the SPC b... Read More

Good cut, moisture content, and smoked down to a nice white ash. Unfortunately, it tasted like old lady soap and left an aftertaste that lingered for a couple hours. Much higher in nicotine than expected.
A rich, full and tasty blend

Product: Seattle Pipe Club Potlatch 2oz
This is a very good, rich blend of tobaccos. Very much full-bodied, it is strong but not over the top. The latakia is on the back end. The orientals and VA's are upfront and center with zip, tang, and sweet notes, while the perique throws in some sp... Read More
ice and kick. the cavendish I think just kind of tones each leaf down a bit, and provides consistency between them throughout the bowl. I do wish it had a tad more smokey-ness to it, but it is a good solid blend with high end rich tobacco. Plum pudding I tend to enjoy more, but this was a nice change. Read Less
Underrated English

Product: Seattle Pipe Club Potlatch 2oz
This is a smooth, consistently burning, well balanced, blend. It has a slight sweetness, and is a very pleasant smoke. In my opinion it is an all day blend and I enjoy it more than Mississippi River. Not more than PP however.
Great Rich Blend That Pleases

Another great SPC Mix. Latakia is up front throughout but, beautifully balanced by the woodsy Burleys and the lemon-grass VAs. The perique adds spice but, doesn’t overpower. Great smoke from char to dottle.
Tobacco Roulette

I can see how this blend is confusing for some. Top of the bowl for me was dominated by the red VAs and perique- Piquant with fruit and vinegar. The latakia is always noticeable throughout, but does not bury the other tobacco. The orientals are gr... Read More
eat as well. Sour at first and spicy towards the finish. Behind it all you get the burley that really fills the role of canvas here. The Cavendish is thankfully far in the background. Just a faint hint of its vanilla, paper notes and just the slightest threat of bite. A solid blend that will be liked by some and a loved by others. For me, this would get 4 stars without the Cavendish. As it stands I'd give it 3/4 or 3.5/5 Read Less

Rich and complex

Product: Seattle Pipe Club Potlatch 2oz
Maybe one of the richest most complex tobaccos I have ever smoked, it is rich, cool, robust, creamy, spicy, sweet. It is everything. It isn't 4 dots strong though more like 3 and the room note is also a 3.
