It wasn't as good as I thought

It smelled great, but I wasn't a fan of the taste. I was a little iffy, so I only bought 1 oz of it. Didn't let it go to waste, but won't buy it again.

Not my favorite blend because I was expecting more flavor, but still makes for a good smoke.
Not bad

I expected to smell and taste more coffee than I actually got. Stayed lit nicely, only took two charring lights and it was good to go. Throughout the bowl however, it tasted bland. Ill smoke the rest while working in the garage.
Sadly, did not enjoy

No flavor came through for me. A lot of tongue bite. Not offensive, and I'd smoke again, if I had it, but I'd rather buy something else. A shame, as I otherwise have enjoyed sutliff

I anticipated flavor over quality. Instead, I find myself taken by pleasant surprise. This was a light flavoring based in high quality Cavendish.

Let me commence by stating that Sir Stanion and I have at least one thing in common:dealing with the inconsistencies of the English language.
I have purchased several different Sutliff blends and plan on trying more as time and budget allow.
When I ... Read More
saw the blend name, COFFEE, my expectations were that it might be akin to Kahlua, perhaps have a flavor of some notoriously expensive niche market coffee, or some other superlative attribute.
Herein lies my dilemma: due to my expectations in as much as I wanted more from this blend. I had no basis for this elevated expectation. The blend is named COFFEE and that is precisely what it is .Not espresso, cappuccino, or any other coffee variation or mutation.Just........COFFEE!
Considering the fact that if you saw the word "cake" blend you might think of birthday cake, red velvet cake, chocolate cake, pound cake or any kind of cake chances are that you would not get what you had in mind. So the problem was my expectations, not what the tobacconist put together.
The aroma when I opened the container was pleasant, the tobacco clean and free of stems and other unexpected bits of foreign objects and moist but not overly so. Packing my bowl went well, the charring light was a one match affair, and the room note was like having a pot of coffee brewing close by. I left the bowl for twenty minutes before lighting again, still a one match event. Having read the other reviews I knew to slow down and go steady ahead. With a few mid bowl tampings the burn was clean to the bottom with no bite or nasty gurgling sounds.
Pairs well with a cup of joe, holds it own with a pint of stout, even plays nicely against a Kahlua and cream.
So why the reason for the five star rating? Because it was exactly what it was supposed to be. Would that all things advertised were so dialed in to the name it bears. A vacuum cleaner can not clean a vacuum, and so on. See my problem now? I am responsible for my expectations whether realistic or not.
Like Sir Stanion, I had a large quantity of pipe cleaners at the ready in case some hideous noise emanated from the innards of my pipe. I HATE noises from inside my pipe because they are the harbinger of horrible things that can happen and really mess up your otherwise pleasant smoke.
Forgive me for being so long winded about this matter and thank you for any comments that you may wish to contribute. Read Less

Not offensive, just not as good as Stokkebyes Black Coffee. Good for mixing, I'll wager.
Very nice for blending

I like a mild tobacco with flavor and no bite, This tobacco has neither quality. I will say it does smoke well for a half a bowl. Then it begins to gurgle and the bite commences. I smokes "4" bowls full thinking that different pipes (Ashton... Read More
s, Comoy and Charatan) would provide a different experience. None did. I smoked the last bowl half-way until the bite took hold. Then I reemed out the remaining tobacco and threw the rest of the 4 oz. bag away. I wasn't worth the pain and the disappointment.. Read Less

I bought 9 different tobaccos on Smokingpipes.com, and I smoked one of them one day at a time. I like a mild tobacco with some flavor, maybe Virginia or burley processed as Black Cavendish, but no latakia or perique. I bought the following, listed in... Read More
order of my preference with the most preferred first. Of course these are just my opinions after smoking pipes for 30 years; yours may be entirely different.
1. Mac Baren Seven Seas Black --- No bite, good flavor while and after smoking, good room aroma.
2. Macbaren HH Old Dark Fire Ready Rubbed --- No bite, good flavor while and after smoking, good room aroma. Takes a little handling to prep for smoking.
3. Sutliff (Altadis) B37 Casanova --- No bite, good generic flavor while and after smoking, good steady burn, and good room aroma.
4. Lane Limited BC-A --- Good but not quite as flavorful as the Mac Barens or Sutliff Casanova nor as good a room aroma. There is no bite and a mild aftertaste. It is a little more difficult to keep lit.
5. Sutliff (Altadis) Classic Chocolate --- Nice aroma and a little more flavor than Sutliff coffee tobbaco. Burns fine and little bite. Lingering vague aftertaste.
6. Gawaith Hoggarth & Co. Kendal Dark --- The small ribbon burns well and does not bite, but it has little flavor, aftertaste or aroma.
7. Newminister No. 201 Straight Black --- Mild aroma. Little flavor or bite. Burns fine.
8. Sutliff (Altadis) 203 Coffee --- No taste or aroma of coffee. Ashy flavor. Not good to my taste buds or tongue; some bite. It burned fine.
9. Cornell & Diehl Dark Chocolate --- No taste or aroma of chocolate. Ashy flavor. Not good to my taste buds or tongue; some bite. It burned fine. Read Less
