Yes when you open the bag or jar you get hit with Vinegar. You want that. Yes you need to cellar it for a few years. The stuff is amazing and they are not aging it for you that’s why it’s so affordable. Great for blending keeping in mind this stuff is in your Seattle Pipe club blends and all the other Sutliff Cake blends....Read More

This was an enjoyable smoke from several different standpoints. It produced mounds of smoke. It had a decent nicotine hit. It was easy to light and keep lit. It produced a nice white fluffy ash. It was one dimensional but not boring. It had the potential for tongue bite but it was easily avoidable with the proper puffing cadence. It could be an all day smoke. A+...Read More
Tangy and ketchupy. Give it some time

Tin note : grassy, ketchup, vinegar, rose and citrus Flavour : when I first got this blend, all I got was ketchup and vinegar. Almost hated it. After letting it sit in the pouch for a month. The ketchup and vinegar note toned down a little and became a more rounded blend. It still falls toward the ketchup and tomato note but just not as much as my first few smokes. After giving it some time we get…hints of grassy notes, mostly overpowered by ketchup, vinegary notes, and get a lot of tomatoes and carrot notes. Has a lil bit of citrusy notes. But as I said earlier. A lot of tomatoes and ketchup. Is really sweet and savoury. We, also do get some stone fruits like raspberry, peaches and a lil mango. This tobacco can sometimes taste really fruity and tartly.Has very lil rough edges. The flavour stays quite the same throughout the bowl and is really strong. Even till the end of the bowl, there is still flavour. Room note : according to my friends. It smells good. Mechanics : it’s a ribbon cut. But it is very springy hence don’t push it too much and overpack it. Requires quite some light to get going. Requires couple of relights across the bowl. Not a challenging blend to smoke. Also not a really straightforward blend, mechanics wise. Tongue bite :It’s very hard to get tongue bite on this tobacco. Might get a lil wet so need to run a cleaner in the middle of the smoke to sort the gurgles. Summary : overall this is a really good tobacco. In the initial stages it really put me off and maybe all it need was a lil time to sit and maybe, air. However, I am not really a fan of ketchup. So I will give this 3 stars, particularly due to it not being what I really go for. 2 of my friends really loved it. One went to buy 2oz of this. Will I buy this again? Maybe. Verdict is 4 stars....Read More

Jar note of sharp vinegary, hay and tart stewed fruit. Tobacco is a ribbon cut of reddish brown and dark brown. Moisture content is ok, most pipe smokers will want to dry it out a bit. Burns slow with a few relights. The strength is mild to medium and nic is mild. No flavoring detected. Taste is medium and very consistent, with notes of vinegary sour, very bready, tart citrus, sugar, acidic, spices, zesty, lemon grass, dry wood, savory, rich earth, hay, floral, a semi-sweet tangy dark fruit background note, and a peppery retro. Room note is pleasant to tolerable, and aftertaste is great....Read More

I just bought this stuff. Bought a pound and I'm glad I did! It is acidic almost, at first. Drying it fixes that. If you have ever had Snyders Honey Mustard and onion pretzel bites, that is the sort of taste you might find here. I did. And I love it. No,this isn't Red Cake. But I'm glad it's not. That belongs to McClelland, the same way Burley belongs to Cornell &Diehl or a solid English goes to GL Pease. But it is,in my opinion, able to scratch the same itch. In fact I'd argue it does so better than McClelland because I can enjoy it with a lot less trepidation. The looming fear of "once it's gone" does not haunt my waking dreams....Read More

This bulk matured red Virginia from Sutliff has fast become one of my staples. Smoked by itself, it’s a great, mouth-wateringly tangy change of pace between bowls of sweeter fare. But, more often, I’ve found that this product, combined with Sutliff’s bulk stoved Virginia, makes a Virginia blend superior to many of the more popular tinned offerings I’ve had lately. I’m aging a BUNCH of this, which isn’t hard considering a pound costs the same as three tins of anything else....Read More
Attention !!! This is POISON !!!

Attention !!! This is POISON !!! The hot vapor of the vinegar burns your mouth. And this is not a metaphor. One minute of smoking is enough to never touch this muck again.
