Sutliff: Ready Rubbed Match Pipe Tobacco

It's subpar in my opinion, granted I'm not a big burley fan. Yeah I get the brown sugar marshmallowy taste on first light, but there's so much topping that not only does it not stay lit (no matter how long you dry it) but the bowl crusts over requiring you to frequently break it up just to relight it. Don't taste any cocoa at all. It also leaves quite the aftertaste that coats the mouth and lingers long after smoking (I find this common in poor quality aromatics). Another thing to note: I accidentally left my entire collection in the unheated pantry over the winter where it was frequently below zero and afterwards this lost all its flavor and tasted quite literally like dirt. I'm not factoring that into the rating of this tobacco, since it was my doing, however the freezing didn't affect any of my other tobaccos at all. Light, grassy and - yes - lemony leaves which burn smoothly and easily. The tobacco it contains is all Virginia and it is mildly flavored with Lemon and honey.

I’ve looked for an everyday smoke that I really truly enjoy. Sir Walter Raleigh was great but they have changed it it’s not the same as it was before. This stuff is the best pipe tobacco I’ve ever had! The baked bread and cocoa is a fantastic note for the bag. I let it air dry for about 5 hours and then jar it up. This and Carter Hall/sutliff estate (aka HH Chatham Manor) are my favorites. The flavor profile on this is similar but noticably different to Carter Hall. This is more molasses and chocolate where CH is bourbon, vanilla, and chocolate. RR match has more natural burley flavor. The tin note is a rich mouthwatering molasses chocolate and that flavor comes through subdued in the smoke with the burley being the star. I highly recommend this blend, it's so good. Well, I finally ran low on my Edgeworth I was able to get at a local B&M. So I decided to try the Sutliff Ready Rubbed Match. It is very close to the original, sweet, slight cocoa but not over powering. It has become my every day smoke when I just want something good and easy to smoke. I keep a jar on my desk and in my truck. I highly suggest letting it dry. If you check it, and think its dry, give it another hour. The dryer the better....Read More

This blend is pretty great for what it is I’m not much of a codger blend or burley guy but this blend burns easy has a great cocoa undertone and good earth with a bit of bread. This may take high honors for my mindless smoke a bowl while doing stuff blend.

Surprisingly great stuff. Pleasant smell, burns slow and cool, really great taste: sweet and nutty, with the notes of aged/fermented burley. The casing is there, but very good one - tasting naturally and not interfering with tobacco taste. It is really smooth, to the point that the strengh is not enough for me, so it should be great for all beginners, cause it's really mild. Very close to the original. There is something missing on the flavor, but the basic components are all here. Very tasty, great aroma, and makes a solid daily smoke with a decent nicotine content. A pipe smoker’s burley, for sure.

Nice old school codger style blend, i prefer this one very dry and packed tight in a cob, if i dont smoke it like that the steam burns my mouth as this baccy comes very fresh, smells like cocoa and tastes like a mellow burley with a slight hint of the flavoring, this one best smoked slow and low, its a solid smoke , not a thought provoking smoke but rather one to smoke while doing stuff or when your mind is elswhere, definitely a blend i could come back to...Read More

Perfect companion to morning coffee. Lights easily and stays lit without any fuss. Burns cool. Always have some of this on hand. More added flavors than the simpler codger blends. Makes a nice change from CH or D&R Two Timer, and similar burley-based offerings.
