don't know what the other reviewers ate smoking, but this stuff belongs down the toilet. It's not even close to the original Douwe Egbert's. I should have known just by the way the cut is different. Good for beginners

This was the very first pipe tobacco that I bought. Initially, I wanted to smoke something that tasted good and smelled good - "normal" tobaccos scared me and I thought it would taste like ashtray. So I grabbed this from my local pipeshop. This is a very good tobacco if you're a beginner or just getting into aromatics. It does bite a bit, specially if you're new and don't know how to smoke properly. Tobacco is a bit moist out of the package, so it needs an hour or two to dry. Taste is very floral, orange-y, lemon-y, but not overpowering which makes it ideal for those who want to try aromatics. Description says that there's supposed to be some chocolate in it as well, but I didn't taste that at all. The room note is sweet and floral as well. Dad’s Codger Blend

My dad loved his pipes, and was a huge fan of Amphora in the 60-80’s. Full Aroma was his favorite blend. He also like plain cavendish. I had to get a pouch in honor of my dad. I am sure it is not 100% the same but very close. A good beginner tobacco to try.

It’s not awful. Apparently this is a reincarnated version of the original. I found this blend less sweet than advertised, and as one or two others noted, it’s a bit harsh. Just shy of bite throughout the bowl. Not sure if it’ll improve with a little drying, but I doubt ole Marshall Dillon would’ve loved this version....Read More

Bought my first pipe (Kaywoodie!) and my first pipe Tobacco, Amphora full Aroma, and joined my Dad, Grandpa and two Uncles as one of the family pipe smokers! Purchased at the Ft. Lee P/X in January ‘70! I was mad as hell when this blend left the country but I moved on as did the rest of us, and cheered its return like most of us! Tried this as I have always felt that the original red Amphora was my all time favorite 20 or so years ago. Man was this the absolute WORST tobacco I have ever had in a pipe! I let it dry for 45 minutes as it was a gloppy mess right out of the pipe. Packed my pipe..lit the char and and was immediately taken aback by the most acrid taste I can remember! Tried to get through one bowl but could not stomach it what so ever. Not sure this is even worth the mason jar I have it in, but since I'm in Japan and paid $12.00 US for it...it will sit in the jar till next year this time at which point I will try it again. It will either be worth a smoke or hit the bin! Very not pleased with a name I had a great fondness for!!...Read More

I respect mac baren and their efforts in blending and recreating blends. Sadly this is less flavorfull from the original, however leaf quality is better. Sweet and floral with cocoa and floral spice touch to it. Good transition between natural and aromatics. Al janabi

I smoked Dutch Amphora blends from 1972 until they disappeared in the USA. My first, and favorite, was Amphora Red, Full Aromatic. When it returned, I was delighted to find that it's close enough to the original, and I really like it. I've have been smoking it for the past 2 years. I tried this on a whim, having never smoked the original/ I like Latakias and, if I didn't I would have probably given this a higher rating. A little wet in the pouch so a little drying time is warranted. Sweet under-taste, reminiscent of fruit. Taste does not fade and emits a wonderful room note that the wife liked.
