About This Pipe Tobacco

A blend of the finest heirloom Red Virginias from historic Old Belt growing regions, Carolina Red Flake is Cornell & Diehl's tribute to the traditions and heritage of the old tobacco country. Honoring this legacy, 2024's edition showcases a trio of premium flue-cured varietals, including 2022 Red-Orange tips (13.53% sugar), 2019 North Carolina Reds (10% sugar), and the impressive Georgian-grown GA-JRL-19 (17.72% sugar) grade.

Combining a hay-like grassiness with naturally sweet, tangy notes, Carolina Red Flake is a minimalist blend with a complex flavor: rich, deep, and earthy with hints of dried fruits and citrus.

I waited almost two years to crack one of my ‘24 tins, and I just can’t find the words to give this tobacco the credit it is due. It is amazing that so much complexity and beautiful flavors can come from a straight Virginia. It’s sweet, rich, and savory. Like the smell of freshly sliced warm artisan bread with a whisper of baking spices and fermented dark fruits. Not cloyingly sweet or overpowering in any way. The Vitamin N is definitely there, so I would recommend a smaller sized bowl (group 3 or 4), and a slow pace. The aftertaste hangs around long enough to let you know you’ve just had something decadent and delicious. I can only imagine how much better it can be with some time in the cellar....Read More

I’m not a huge fan of just Virginia blends. But the pipe shop that I go to has had this on the shelf for a while now. So today I swing by to grab some more pipe cleaners. And this was still there so l grabbed a tin of it. This is a really grate bland. Tons of flavor I’m about halfway through the bowl right now and it’s just getting better. I might have to head back to the pipe shop and grab the remaining four tins that are there and put them in my cellar and see how they age. Just another great blend from C/D...Read More

There is not that mich to add or write about this small batch.
All of you will know (more or less) what you will get. A solid and nice tobacco.

This year it seems that CD went more on the sweet side because this tobacco miss the spice and vinegar taste from the last years.

Nevertheless, this is another solid CRF release, which smokes cool, clean and with nearly the smiliar taste profile as every year.
