About This Pipe Tobacco

Now in its fourth generation of producing fine pipe tobaccos, the Stokkebye family tradition began with Erik Peter Stokkebye, born in 1855, and continues to this day with bespoke blends, many paying homage to important dates in their family history.

The 1897 blend honors the birth year of Erik Peter's son Erik Paul, who loved to travel and seek new experiences. It presents a delightful combination of Golden Virginias, Burleys, and a touch of Black Cavendish. A base of rich vanilla combines with notes of sweet honey for a gentle aromatic sweetness.

Tin note of vanilla and sweet spices. Tobacco is a ribbon cut of mostly black with a little brown and even smaller amount of tan. Moisture content is great. Burns slow with a few relights. The strength is mild and nic is mild. Flavoring is mild, with notes of Honey and Vanilla. Honey died after initial light. Vanilla was fairly prominent in the first 1/4 before settling in the background. Taste is mild and moderately consistent, with notes of honey, vanilla, brown sugar, fermented sour vegetation, wood, toast, grass, creamy, spices, floral, dry earth, bitter, a semi-sweet nutty dry hay background note, and a smooth retro. Cavendish is leading with Burley, Virginia and Flavoring supporting. Room note is pleasant, and aftertaste is good....Read More

Recommended for a first timer here and it was a wonderful experience. Even though I didn't really know how to light my pipe until a third sitting. Eventually I got it and the whole experience was sweetness in the air and flavorful tastes to the lips and mouth.

.... must have been a good year. This is a pleasant aromatic. This tobacco is very similar in tin note and tobacco quality to the Mac Baren 7 Seas offering. My immediate thought when first opened was the striking similarity. This came very moist, but quickly fixed with just a moment of pre-preparation. No worries. Enjoyable change of pace smoke....Read More
A royal success

Product: Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation 1897 3.5oz
Tin was a year old when smoked. Very similar to 7 seas royal blend. Possibly a bit more fruity and not so heavy on the vanilla. Very clean with a polished finish. The tobacco was present but very light... the aro leads and its consistent to the end.

Upon opening the tin you get that "whoosh", that air-tight sound gasping for air. That smell, ooh that smell...vanilla and honey. Neither wet or gooey, nice individual strands of tobacco, dropping them in your bowl one at a time. Leave er loose, lighting a section at a time...my, my the flavor is wonderful and if there are those in smelling distance they are going to turn and look...that smell, ooh whats that smell...A+ room note! Then just go ahead and fire that baby up, smoke er slow until nothin' but ash is in the bowl. One of my favorites!...Read More
