The tin note is really like grandmas "only for guests" floral soap bars. The actual smoke is a very rich and balanced creamy (not super aromatic) smoke. I was surprised how fantastic it is. Virginias and burley married superbly.
My favorite pipe tobacco.

ke in the lineup, and Kendal, my second favorite, is very floral also, but Grasmere edges it out by the stronger rose and stronger nicotine.
Ennerdale tastes like almond lotion smells, and is very good also.
But Grasmere is special. It is very, very rosy, with a sneaky nicotine wallop that creeps up on you. It has been described as "an iron fist in a velvet glove," and this tobacco fits that description better than any other.
I have smoked more than my fair share of Dark Plug, and Dark Flake Scented also. Not at that level of nicotine by any means, but it still sneaks up on you.
I went from aromatics, to vapers, to English blends, then lakelands, and finally found my favorite in Grasmere. I still smoke all types of tobacco, but this one is my favorite, and I never tire of it.
It isn't for everyone but this is the be all end all of lakeland flakes in my book.
While not as smooth as Kendal, which is the easiest tobacco in the world on the tongue, it has a better taste and nicotine punch.
Now if we can only get Gawith & Hoggarth to start making their Almond snuff again, which has both almond and violet in balance and strong in all categories. I only have a few pounds left of that treasure....Read More

mooth and floral, but not over done. I love the tin note of Ennerdale flake, but I felt the flavor of it never fully lived up to its tin note, this didn’t disappoint though. My only advice is it give it some time to dry before smoking, the flakes I received were very moist. All in all this was a very pleasant tobacco....Read More

Quality tobacco but did nothing for me. Some other reviewers have compared this to the Kendall flake which is nothing like. Good components quality tobacco, not a repeat buy for me
Grasmere reminds why burley is king.

f burley/virginia. I get chocolate milk, coffee and Irish cream as flavor notes and a bit of black pepper. Much like Kendal flake big brother. A full medium strength and flavor....Read More
A phenomenal Lakeland

a plus for me. It still has the light Virginia flavor along with the satisfying burley strength. As I've stated before; GH tobaccos are really good, quality tobaccos, with just a little something else on top. Well, with the exception of Ennerdale, which is absolutely over-the-top. Though, I do really enjoy Ennerdale from time to time.
The only problem I have with this blend is that it's frequently backordered at smokingpipes.com, which has been the only retailer I've been able to find it. If you enjoy Lakeland-style tobaccos (and I certainly do), this is a fantastic choice. If you're curious about Lakelands, this would be a good place to start, along with No. 7 Broken Flake. But, if you despise the Lakeland aromas, steer clear. Most of Gawith, Hoggath's offerings have some of the perfume on it. I don't know if that's just their signature or there's no way to keep it out of the other tobaccos in the factory. Even the "unscented" tobaccos still have a faint whisper of the famous Lakeland sauce....Read More

If you like floral in a tobacco, this has rose in it. Decent and not overpowering. It's called floral, not "soapy".
How Lakeland can a Lakeland get?

ach tobacco blend or flake considered a “Lakeland” or “Kendal” has a unique recipe based on attempts to create blends under the now defunct Tobacco Purity Law. The law strictly limited what and how much could be added to enhance tobacco. As a result many of these tobaccos make use of floral compounds. In this case, Grasmere Flake uses Rose and Geranium. Let that sink in for a moment. Citrus notes and nuttiness in a tobacco profile is one thing, but we're talking flowers here! Well, it's not all that bad. Sure comparisons can be made to perfumes and soaps since most of them also contain floral compounds. That being said, Grasmere is one of the most floral flakes I've ever had. The tobaccos used in Grasmere are really good, but only after you can get past the mental block set by the aroma. It takes some getting used to. Okay, maybe for some a lot of getting used to, but it is a brave change-of-pace that has its own rewards. If you decide you want to try a Lakeland tobacco, I'm not sure this is the best place to start; baby-steps. If you already know you like Lakelands, then you probably already enjoy Grasmere. Personally, it pushes my limits ever so slightly, but it is another nice flake from GH still done the traditional way and for that it's worth a try....Read More
