About This Pipe

Anne Julie at first thought to sell her husband Poul Rasmussen's inventory and machines after his death at the age of 46. Instead, with the assistance of former Rasmussen apprentice Hans "Former" Nielsen, she took up the craft of pipe making herself. The pipe makers she has since mentored include Tom Eltang, and her own pipes include both traditional shapes and very creative Freehands.

The bowl of this bent Dublin from Anne Julie is carved vertically as though to mimic tree bark, a comparison helped by the very dark stain. This allows for a very natural touch to the hand and extends all the way to the stem, which is also partially carved most of the way to the bit. The bowl is canted well forward and the underside of the pipe is quite fluid in the space from heel to junction, giving this pipe quite a profile. At once classic and unique, Anne Julie has found a middle ground between the shape chart and her own style that will no doubt become a favorite of any collector of fine Danish craftsmanship.
