About This Pipe
Peter Heding was a molecular biologist when he saw a TV interview with Anne Julie and found himself mesmerized by her handiwork, deciding quickly that pipe making was a perfect creative outlet. He learned the craft in Tom Eltang's workshop and also takes inspiration from other fellow pipe-making Danes, including Teddy Knudsen and Kent Rasmussen.
Peter gave this bent Dublin a very wide, inflated rim to allow for an appearance similar to that of a Rhodesian or Bulldog, but the shank is composed of a pair of arcs with crisp ridgelines near the bottom, making it neither perfectly round nor diamond-shaped. He also managed to find excellent grain for the bowl — flame grain below the ridgeline, birdseye above it, all of it finished smoothly to breathe easy and stained a dark mahogany hue. A lightly bent vulcanite stem finishes the piece, which eschews straightforward, traditional shaping for rounded lines that still make it quite handsome.
