About This Pipe

Comoy's annual Christmas pipe series has been around since 1976, with few interruptions to this production through its history. This set is representative of the first six entries into this line, with pipes from 1976 to 1981 presented in a lavish case lined with blue crushed velvet, cradling each pipe nicely within their own little space. The entry from 1976 is a handsome Opera/bent Billiard shape that's compressed nicely at the flanks and is quite comfortable in hand, while the 1977 is a classic straight Billiard with a flat bottom for sure sitting. For 1978 we have a bent Brandy with a measured taper to its rim and a bold heel paired to a gently lifted shank and stem, while 1979 brings us a gently sinuous bent Dublin with a dynamic forward urge. The selection is rounded out by a robust Canadian from 1980 and a deeply bent Billiard from 1981, the latter promising a comfortable jaw-hanging posture. As a whole, this set comprises a wonderfully diverse assemblage of fine English pipes, all of which are finished smooth and showcase some handsome grain throughout, the warm stains dressing their stummels looking nothing short of classic. An alluring bit of provenance serves to elevate this set quite a bit, as it was formerly in the possession of Richard Carleton Hacker, a well-known author in the pipe world whose works The Ultimate Pipe Book and Rare Smoke, among others, have garnered considerable acclaim among fellow enthusiasts. To make this collection even more tempting, especially for enthusiasts of Comoy's pipes, each pipe in this set remains unsmoked.
