About This Pipe
This Egg from Baldo Baldi, with its thick proportions and strong forward cant, bears a strong resemblance to the Devil Anse. As with many pieces from Baldi's repertoire, and much of Italian pipe making in general, this is a composition dominated by its large bowl. Said bowl is formed by rotund walls housing a capacious chamber almost two inches deep, making this a great companion for the long-winded smoker. The bowl's deep cant places the chamber at a comfortable angle for lighting the contents within, and its forward motion is exaggerated by the flame grain lapping at its walls. Additionally, the cant softens the heel's front side for a cozy in-hand fit. Out back, the shank-and-stem arrangement emerges arrow straight from an obtuse and distinguished transition. A gorgeous, glossy smooth finish, stained an earthy chestnut hue, dresses the stummel to complete the pipe's elegant look.
