About This Pipe
The late Luigi Viprati carved his first pipe purely for fun while serving in the Italian military in 1972, finding himself enamored with the craft immediately. He began to sign his pipes with his own name in 1984 and found for himself a great comprehension and appreciation for the Italian neoclassic style over the years.
This bent Dublin Sitter of Luigi's making is fronted by a relatively typical Dublin bowl (for a Sitter) decorated with lovely birdseye and is backed by a thick, flaring shank that begins just above the bottom of the heel and well below the top of the aft wall. The effect is almost one of whimsy, given the idea that Luigi formed this stummel with curves in such unusual places and made the shank so separate from the bowl while still carving it from the very same block of briar. Out back, the stem is composed from swirling gray-and-black acrylic that gives a cloudy effect, contrasting well with the bright, smooth briar of the stummel. It's a very playful piece on Luigi's part, sure to please any smoker looking for a new Dublin capable of serving as a desk pipe.
