About This Pipe
South Africa's Charl Goussard first got into pipe smoking because of the smell — a non-smoker at the time, Goussard forbade his college roommate from smoking in their shared space, but later decided that while he would never smoke cigarettes, he might consider pipe smoking because the smell was preferable to that of cigarettes. His roommate went out and bought a pipe, and Charl's preeminent hobby began.
The bent Pot Charl created here verges on Nosewarmer territory, spanning about four and three-quarters of an inch, with a considerable amount of that taken up by a very wide, very stout bowl that tapers almost in the manner of a Brandy. The stummel is only shallowly sandblasted to allow for a very smooth touch to the hand, and the flame grain is easily observed despite the dark stain. The shank is moderately upturned to meet the heavily transparent, amber-hued saddle stem, which is very dark at the junction before lightening on its way to the especially flat bit. It's a very stylish piece of craftsmanship from Charl, one that is easily portable and even easier on the eyes.
