About This Pipe

Now retired, Michael Kabik made this Freehand under the Sven Lar brand and gave it quite generous proportions — it weighs in at about one-sixth of a pound, stretches six inches in length, and features a broad transition that can easily be pinched with thumb and forefinger. Kabik read the grain quite well when he made this Freehand, specifically the flame grain that packs the muscular walls of the bowl. A cream-colored, translucent stem of bent acrylic finishes the piece with a certain panache, and it can sit upright on its heel without assistance. Substantial presence in the hand and intense grain make this a great piece of smooth woodworking by Kabik.
