About This Pipe
Erik Nørding is one of Denmark's most prolific, well-established carvers, entering the pipe world in the late 1950s and making a name for himself with the advent of the Fancy Freehand movement. These Freehands make up the bulk of Nørding's work, each one initially shaped on a fraising machine before being hand-carved to add rich detail and flourish to the stummel. This Freehand piece is part of the carver's Point Clear series, one which comprises a unique set of features: a domed, cap-like rim finished smooth to match the smooth shank, and a pine cone-like rustication across the rest of the stummel. The rustication is slightly darker and full of texture that's sure to keep things interesting in the hand, its craggy surface matching a kiss of plateau across the rim.
