About This Pipe
Sitting sturdily on a flattened underside, this "352" Lumberman deviates from Ropp's overall classic fare, creating quite the large, exaggerated interpretation of the traditional design. A lengthy shank is paired to a trim saddle stem here, in a fashion true to the standard form, though the entire combination is possessed of a consistent taper to the bit, drawing attention to its flattened ovoid shape. Married to this shank and stem is a towering bowl of Stack-like height and chamber depth, emphasizing a robust, muscular character throughout, and keeping the eye's focus squarely on this proud monolith of briar.
Like all of Ropp's series, the Heritage features old-stock stummels sourced from the Chapuis-Comoy factory — all turned decades ago but left unfinished and without stems. The Heritage line dresses these stummels in a rich, chocolate-and-charcoal stain, revealing the briar's natural grain patterns in alluring contrast to offer visual intrigue while maintaining the French marque's traditional aesthetic. They're also fitted to vulcanite stems — unlike the horn mouthpieces of the Vintage, Vintage Stout, Vintage Superior, and Ruby lines — for a classic motif similar to the Étudiant and Algerian Superior series but with considerably increased overall dimensions.
