About This Pipe
Founded in 1983 by William "Bill" Ashton-Taylor, who worked as a Dunhill apprentice, the Ashton workshop is lauded for its incredibly high standards of quality and mastery of classic English design principles. Jimmy Craig currently heads the company, having taken up the mantle after Bill's passing in 2009. Since then, he has sustained the Ashton legacy by steadfastly following the founder's philosophy of equally prioritizing all parts of the pipe, and utilizing only the best materials and most pristine finishing.
This Billiard from Ashton exudes equal parts sleekness and ruggedness, combining clean lines with dark, moody finish work and craggy texture. The bowl is quite classic for a Billiard, exhibiting the subtlest taper toward the rim and the faintest hint of a forward cant. Said bowl poses stands proudly at the fore of a short, cylindrical shank adorned with a generous silver band: a fine display of Jimmy Craig's silverwork. A sleek, arrow-straight saddle stem completes the composition, while Ashton's dark, smoky Pebble Grain sandblast ties everything together with a distinguished yet rugged air.
