About This Pipe
Presented in handy Group 4 size, this "01" Apple from Dunhill features a plump, well-rounded bowl that stands at the fore of a sleek stretch of shank and stem. As expected from the prestigious English marque, the proportions here are well-balanced and precise, with the bowl, shank, and stem all visually aligned within the composition. The handsome Shell Briar finish dresses the stummel and highlights a fetching display of grain around the bowl's supple walls. As part of Dunhill's "F" series, this piece is drilled to accommodate a 9mm filter.
The Shell Briar's addition to the Dunhill catalog was a pivotal moment in pipe-smoking history. Before 1917, pipes with sandblasted finishes had never been made, and Alfred Dunhill's innovative mind created arguably the most popular finish for pipes today when he unveiled the Shell Briar. With its dark, reserved color palette and delightful texture, it's no surprise that it's still wildly popular over a century later.
