At the age of 12, John Klose received his first pipe as a costume prop, and he's been fascinated with them ever since. During college, he worked in a camp near Yosemite where he picked up on some essential skills that would later serve as the base for his pipe making career: auto mechanics, woodworking, leatherworking, beer-drinking, and, of course, pipe smoking. Together with his close friend, Jared Coles, he co-founded J&J Pipes, learning to source the highest quality materials, create proper pipe making tools, craft functional pipes that would stand the test of time, and do it all beautifully.

Under the J&J brand, Jared and John made pipes together, in the same shop, all under the same name. As such, consistency and growth were the main goals each wished to achieve. Suffice to say, they accomplished both in spades and decided it was time for them to explore their own artistic directions through their own individual brands.

Today John makes pipes independently, using the experience and expertise he developed under the J&J brand, as well as all the tips he and Jared both received from Jeff Gracik of J.Alan Pipes, to form the base of his style and aesthetic. Given what we saw come out of the J&J workshop, it's clear that we can expect great things from both John and Jared alike.
