About This Pipe
With a background in graphic design and an affinity for woodworking from a young age, Brazilian artisan Luis Lavos has a keen eye for design and a true penchant for reading a block of briar. Lavos' portfolio is replete with many beautiful pieces — many of which reveal his Danish influences, in particular. This bent Egg certainly speaks to that influence, exhibiting clean lines and soft, gentle curves throughout.
Hearty yet balanced, and elegantly fluid, this bent Egg pairs a plump, palm-filling bowl with a gracefully upturned shank-and-stem arrangement. The end of the shank is almost domed — a decidedly Danish design element — and is decorated with a fetching band of Ivorite. Said material is particularly striking with its subtle, wavy striations; not only does it decorate the shank, but also a small portion of the bowl's right flank, resulting in a pleasing pop of tonal and textural contrast against the briar's light, smooth finish.
