Mark Tinsky: Bengal Horn (Three Star) (Glenn Tinsky) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-035-1007
This Horn from Glenn Tinsky, son of Mark Tinsky, showcases the upstart carver's already deft understanding of shaping and finishing. With no discernible transition, this piece makes little differentiation between bowl and shank, instead presenting as one elongated, gradually tapering hunk of briar, with a flared, undulating rim at the fore and a demure saddle stem trailing out back. The undercurve of the stummel is lined with a craggy, dark ridge of plateau, which adds a touch of naturalism to the composition and provides some nice texture in hand. The smoky, contrast-stained Bengal smooth finish dresses the stummel and highlights dense whorls of birdseye across the top of the composition and fine strands of cross grain across the flanks.
