About This Pipe
Upon creating his Ser Jacopo brand in 1982, Giancarlo Guidi forged his own aesthetic path, diverging even further from English and French pipemaking standards than his classically influenced northern Italian counterparts like Castello. Guidi found inspiration in fine art and everyday life, with his muses being as diverse as the pipes he saw fisherman smoking or those depicted in the art of Van Gogh. Mastro Geppetto is a sub-brand of Ser Jacopo, offering pipes with Ser Jacopo's aesthetic but at a more accessible price. This bent Billiard from Mastro Geppetto is a compact, Nosewarmer-length piece with a capacious chamber. Rather than boasting a significant bowl-forward presence, as many Italian pipes do, this pipe is equally muscular throughout the entire piece, with a high transition and girthy shank. As such, it calls to mind the American style of pipe making. A sunny stem brightens the overall composition without being overly ostentatious. This would make a great pipe for fans of the proportions of many American pipes who are looking to get a taste of Italian pipe making.
