About This Pipe
Luigi Radice worked in the prestigious Castello workshop before founding the Caminetto brand with Giuseppe "Peppino" Ascorti in the late 1960s. In 1980, Radice began producing his self-titled brand of pipes with his son, Gianluca, and father, Paolo. The brand pays heavy attention to the briar that goes into each pipe, seasoning it for three years before production.
This Pot from Radice wears their smooth, wavy Silk Cut sandblast and, as a work of the Pure line, is unstained to allow the natural color of the briar to be appreciated by the eyes. The bowl is a traditional Pot, defined by squat, muscular walls and backed by a brief stub of briar shank before yielding to a long ferrule of black acrylic. The stem of the same material tapers back from the ferrule, giving this piece a sharp contrast from the pale hue of the unstained briar. It's a traditionally shaped piece that places the briar above all else, a sign that Radice's artisans truly valued the material that went into this pipe.
