Dolomiti Smooth (812) (6mm) Tobacco Pipe

Exemplifying Savinelli's creative approach to classic shapes, the "812" is, in essence, a bent Canadian — interpreting the English shape-chart standard through a more dramatic, whimsical lens. The stummel remains rooted in tradition, with the elongated, oval shank giving way to an upright Billiard bowl. By subtly bending the abbreviated stem, though, Savinelli has effectively accentuated the firm heel at the fore and given the transition a more angled appearance in profile. Furthermore, the downturned mouthpiece balances out the long form for a more comfortable clench and accents the sleekness of the shank through its elegant curve.

Inspired by the iconic Dolomite mountain range in northeastern Italy, as well as the sedimentary carbonate rock of the same name found there and in various historic buildings throughout Rome, Savinelli's Dolomiti series is fittingly characterized by its earthy brown color palette. This particular example wears a chocolate-stained, rusticated finish, accented by a small beige acrylic band, as well as a matching acrylic mouthpiece of variegated caramel and cream tones. Such an aesthetic calls to mind the appearance of the mountains near dusk when the last rays of sunlight lend the pale grey stone a darker, richer, and warmer color.
