Cornell & Diehl - Autumn Evening 2oz
Dessert in a Pipe
Autumn Evening is sweet without being cloying. Maple, vanilla, and warm baking spice, but it still tastes like tobacco. It burns easily, smells fantastic, and is just an easy, comforting smoke. My wife even lets me smoke this one in the house, which might be the highest praise an aromatic can get.

Cornell & Diehl - Bijou 2oz
Smoke it cool
Bijou didn’t grab me immediately because I hadn’t yet learned how cool a pipe really needs to be smoked. Pushed too hard, it mostly tasted like cigarettes to me. Once I slowed way down, it completely opened up. Sweet, bready Virginias, a little honey, and that wonderful spicy, herbal Katerini underneath. Rich, subtle, and incredibly rewarding.

Cornell & Diehl - Bayou Morning Flake 2oz
The blend that made pipe smoking click for me
I’m still relatively new to pipe smoking, and Bayou Morning Flake is the tobacco that showed me just how good it can be. Yes, there’s a lot of Perique here, but I don’t experience this as some brutal pepper bomb. Smoked slowly, the Virginias become wonderfully sweet, bready and almost honey-like, with a creamy richness that keeps me coming back. The Perique brings pepper and fermented dark-fruit character, but more importantly it gives the whole thing depth and keeps that Virginia sweetness from ever becoming boring.
