Cornell & Diehl - Firebird Flake 2oz
To all with availability issues/concerns
Many have mentioned the troubles with small batches sold out or ordering issues on this site. Not to argue that "perhaps the limit per day may be too high" but I have rarely found a release to sell out right away. Some have though, such as some Gawith and the limited G. L. Pease. But for the most part they are available for a respectable amount of time. I tend to open this website every day or two and look at the lates tobaccos released to see if something new is out. I tend to get two or three cans of the small batch for personal use and found no issues. With the newer system in place to limit the number of visitors to the site I have found it inconvenient to have to wait in line to be let in. But this is practical to allow the site not to crash so I understand. I believe that there may be issues for some, where perhaps your browser may cause some issues? Just an idea. There must be some extenuating problem as we see your concerns about the new batch being sold out but often they are not and remain available for hours and hours, or days after your posts. A few seem to be having this trouble but not all. Another note to add here is the reason for the small batches. Due to the newer regulations, small batches may be released with less regulation as I understand it and in most cases is not a sales tactic to sell tobacco. I think this would be an excellent topic for Smoking Pipes to offer a write up on. I am less upset about these releases with this understanding but would appreciate learning more as I imagine we all would. "Smoking Pipes", it seems some of your patrons have raised the concern or thought that limiting the number of tins even further would be beneficial with small batch releases. Some have also offered concerns about the reasoning of the small batches. I ask now if you might consider providing further information to your customer base on the small batch releases please? **Note, I provided a rating for this batch however I have not yet received my tins. I felt an average rating would not obscure from an overall feedback from others.
Lighters - Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation Pipe Lighter
Great lighter but troubled
My purchase for this lighter was to have a backup to my old boy when away from home. I don't want to search for a light when my lighter fails me.I learned that the soft flame and its angle was even more enjoyable than the old boy but after smoking a steady 2 oz with many relights it stopped lighting. I can hear the gas and see the faint spark but no luck. Probably would have continued using more than my old boy if not for its failure. Smoking Pipes was EXCELLENT with helping me work out my issue. They stand by their products sold. Unfortunately the lighter could not be fixed but I was provided a refund and used that toward other options. I give it a 3 rating because the pipe was fantastic but I think I happened across one of the few bad ones in the bunch.
Cornell & Diehl - Carolina Red Flake with Perique 2oz
It’s a keeper for sure
Former VaPer smoker turned pure Virginia smoker. But I tried this one and it stole my heart. So sweet with enough complexity to keep it exciting. I bought a few cans to share with friends but I don’t think I will be able to part with any now that I tried it. Well, maybe by the bowl but I’m going to be smoking this one steadily. Unusual as I seem to be well satisfied with a smaller portion. I typically have a well packed full bowl with my smokes but this one leaves me very pleased with half a bowl. No bite and I was puffing at a good pace. I would really hope to see this one come out more often. Virginia lovers I think are going to be really happy with this.
Gawith Hoggarth & Co. - Kendal Gold Vintage Cut
Can't get away from this one
I'm typically a smoker of many tobaccos, styles and cuts. Somehow I have become so drawn to this one that it has become my morning smoke on my drive to work and fairly often my afternoon smoke as well. If fairs really well on the hot days. Something about pulling this messy long string cut out of the jar and packing the bowl with a mess of scraps all over my counter. It's becoming a ritualistic pleasure. Gives a really sweet draw from the start and just a touch of that nice hay flavor that does not overpower at all. This one smokes down to the ash very well with few if any relights and usually with no bitter ending. The bowl burns fast so packing it just right, full and mid compacted will give me just the right amount for my 20 minute drive to the office. It just tastes better than any other virginia I have tried. I will likely keep this one on my counter at all times.
Brigham - Northern Lights Pipe Set
)
Beautiful set for anyone who has a fondness for the Brigham pipes. I was thrilled when I learned that I bought these as a gift to myself (ha ha). I am glad I did. They are a nice display and the pipes each are flawless. I choose to keep them to admire and not smoke but I have dozens of Brighams and nearly every one of them smoke very well. Not a fan of the System pipes as they do not have the same level of quality but there is a reason the Brigham name is still around. I love this collection but if there is room for improvement I might enjoy seeing a little bit more variety than the choices in the collection. Perhaps at least one pipe a bit out of the ordinary to stand out.
