Was I even smoking ?
Again, with full apologies and pardons from much wiser and learned pipe smokers in the community, I followed the advice of some more experienced than myself and decided to try some "pure specimens". This is the advice that tells you to smoke plain (unblended) Virginias, plain Kentuckys, plain Burleys, etc. (you get the picture) for you to develop your own "smoker's palate wisdom" and understand what you like or not (e.g. Latakias, Orientals, Periques, etc.) Ok, so I did. I loved the smell of this Virginia even before opening the bag (bulk). Beautiful. At once I thought, this smells like something I might want to smoke as a roll your own (been thinking about that for a while but had no idea where to get appropriate tobacco for that). Anyway, this smelled superb like good tobacco was supposed to smell. Then I lit up my pipe. Where did the tobacco go ??? Nothing there. Hot air (not hot, I don't rush the pipe and I keep my hand on it, so I know). Just smoke. Just smoke. Why would I want to buy and light this ? It was not even worth cleaning my pipe. (I did. God forbid.) So, once again, disappointed. It still smells great and I am still looking forward to rolling it and smoking it like an old fashioned cowboy cigarette. Not worth having to clean my pipe for it. Where, oh where, did the tobacco go ? Again, with all due and proper respects for my all my seniors in knowledge. Edit/Update: Eventually used it as a blend in for some aromatics to increase their tobacco character with excellent results. Still looking forward to rolling it.

Premises Vacator
With respect and apologies to the fans of Father Dempsey. I had the misfortune of trying this blend based on many excellent reviews. However, something went wrong. Very wrong. What I got was akin to a stinking, toxic dumpster fire smoke that could only be endured from inside of a hazmat suit. My wife and daughter came out of their respective rooms to open the family room doors and kitchen windows and start every fan in the house, their eyes tearing and irritated, from the other side of a 3,500 square foot house. The smell was the first intolerable smell I have yet to experience from a pipe tobacco (no, can not call it an aroma), and the taste was something vile I had to flush out of my mouth with mouthwash and several candies. Have you ever smelled tires burning ? Now imagine tasting it. I don't know what was wrong with my tobacco. Here's a hint: I bought it in bulk, not in a tin, a small 1 oz. portion to sample it. Perhaps there was some mistake there. By the way, before concentrating on Pipes several years ago, I was an experienced cigar smoker for over 20 years. I smoked this in a LaRocca Italian briar billiard pipe. I am a compulsive cleaner of my pipes so they don't ghost nor contaminate. I only use clean butane soft flame lighters so as to not impart any chemical lighter fluid odor. What could possible have been wrong with what I smoked? I even had to take the trash out of the house when I dumped the bag in it. Again, my apologies to fans of Kramer's Father Dempsey.
